Weapon ExpertiseFollow

Hi guys, I am combat sword spec and recently got hold of Shoulderpads of the Stranger and its tooltip says it adds 10 weapon expertise to it. I had 2 points pumped into weapon expertise so i already have 10 expertise. But when i equipped the shoulders, it only shows a total of 12 weapon expertise. Is this a bug or 12 is the cap for weapon expertise?

Considering mine is at 15 at the moment... I don't think it's you "capping". Are you sure you're adding up all expertise correctly? Post up your armory, it'll help us figure it out for you.

Expertise Rating. The effective cap is 23 (never dodge/parry/block again from a level 73).

Expertise Rating works out to about 4.5 per 1 Expertise, IIRC.

This is my armoury profile. As you can see, my Expertise is only 12 when by right it should be 20. Am i doing anything wrong?

No it doesn't it adds 10 expertise rating. Read it a little more carefully.

So with +10 expertise rating, you get ~2 expertise. So you end up with (10 + 2 expertise) = 12 expertise total.

if the cap to expertise is 23, you get 1 point of expertise/4.5 points of expertise rating. so your looking at 59 points of expertise rating to cap expertise(if you have the 10 points of expertise talented).

is this possible, is there enough gear with expertise on to achieve this number?
(the advanced search doesn't have weapons expertise as a searchable option)

and would it be worth it, to get close to this number?

Just to make this clear, I think that 4.5 rating = 1 expertise. That's just a rough estimate from personal experience. The actual number could be something entirely different.

There are quite limited choices, and only available from end game content, like the following:

Gloves of the Searing Grip (TK, Alar) - 18 Exp
Belt of One-Hundred Deaths (SSC, Lady Vashj) - 25 Exp
Shoulderpads of the Stranger (SSC, Hydross) - 10 Exp
Brooch of Deftness (35 Badges) - 21 Exp

So taking the first 3 items, you get around 53 points, which should be more than enough to get close to the cap.

According to wowwiki:
Like most other combat attributes, items do not directly increase your expertise. Rather items increase your expertise rating, which is then used along with your level to calculate your actual expertise value (see combat rating). At level 70, every 3.9 points of expertise rating grants one point of expertise.

Thank you tabstopper for pointing out what was wrong. Silly me for not reading more carefully and thank you all for clarifying the expertise concept.
