I've been going through my gear lately and came to the conclusion that i've got a lot of warrior ''wannabe'' gear and i dont know what i should be looking for, im ret at the moment, is something like the high warlord's (lvl 60 pvp set) a nice example of how my gear should be?

Point two is that i'll be going to the outlands soon and i've heard that tanking gear might be more useful there than ret or holy gear, so should i keep on searching for ret gear, or just wait and get some tanking gear from the outlands?

Ret stops being good in the mid 50s, though you can usually pull it off to 70 if you don't mind being terrible in groups. So when people say start getting holy or prot gear, that's probably because the expect you to respec when you get to outlands

The question is what do you want to do. Do you want to stay ret? Heal? Tank? What.

Give us that and we can give you a better answer.

I'd check out Tool's retribution guide. It's written with end-game in mind, but you might want to still read through it. He goes over the stats you should be aiming for and why. I also have a brief section in the FAQ, but nowhere near as in-depth as Tool's. It's on the front page only a few posts down.

yea...as many times as you hear "LOL RET? YOU SUCK!" you need to say to your self: "Well i like this spec so he is a loser for razzing me about a video game." Thats my opinion, but w/e.

Well i like healing more than tanking, so i guess that holy will be my spec for the outlands

actually ret doesn't start sucking in the mid-50's. at 70 with only blues i still usually top damage charts. if it ever starts dropping off its well into raiding. which is way past mid-50's last i checked.

but to the OP, if you want to stay ret (or even go prot) you will need to put a bit more time into keeping up on your gear than as holy. DO NOT wear tank gear and expect to dps as ret. you will not do much damage and rarely will people want you as OT.

dps warrior gear is good actually. a few peices o ret or hunter gear can be nice for the int, but only a very few. leveling up, i'd recommend dps warrior, rogue, and hunter gear mostly. look for strength and agil/crit.

if you really do like healing thats cool too. in that case i'd read dilberts guide. very well done holy guide.

Ok, i'm going to try that one. Btw if i go Holy as soon as i hit 60, will it be troublesome to do questing and all?

if you do go holy, your leveling will be a bit slower. still possible of course, just slower. if you choose to go holy at 60 i'd recommend getting benediction and improved judgement and SotC for solo questing to make leveling a little easier. grab any +healing gear you can for healing, but also grab as much +spell damage gear for questing/grinding. instances will probably be your best way to level.

Yeah, i sort of figured that, but i guess if i will respec to holy at 60 i'll also get some practicing on my healing

Btw, ToolofJesus, isnt that going to be something like a shockadin build?

yeah, for leveling starting at 60 with a 41/0/10 spec and starting up holy again would be my recommendation. and yes, thats a shockadin spec. i prefer this version cause 51/0/10 is a bit better for healing even starting in raids than 40/0/21. its not gonna make you a dpser for 70 instances, but it'll make questing and grinding a bit faster.
