Maybe your Ferals need to gear better because in every Gruul run that my guild has done I have been #5 or 6 DPS for the entire run including the High King.
I always battlerez someone and throw a Innervate on a healer. I also have thrown heals on the MT after a shatter to keep his health up since I was closer then the healers. I switch to bear when Gruul throws everyone and have never died to a shatter where other "Leet" DPS die easily.
I'm always in the top 3 DPS in full Kara runs and was #1 DPS for the Bear boss in ZA and #3 overall after OT several adds from the scouts near the 3rd boss.

Honestly, if they'd rather you sit out for more dps to come in, then tell them to make the MT sit out as you're going to do far more dps than he would be capable and there is NO NEED FOR ANY TANKING AT ARAN.
as rarebeast said. try not to stick to a dps and only dps mentaility for a druid. Cat is only one face of the druid class and our greatest strength is our versitility. great you are the top 5 in grul in a group of equal geared people. In a group of 25. top 5 is just saying you're no 5 out of 14-17 dps. 6-8 healers 2-4 tank/offtanks. In kara top 3 means you're the middle of the dps scale as there are 5-6 dpsers.
if you're looking to be a damage zombie, try the rogue, mage or hunter forum. Raid wise good raid leaders look for the guys who know how to and will be willing to play their class to the max. ie offtanking/ maintanking, healing and dps. irregardless of their personal preference of ONLY dps. in druid terms the class that ONLY dps is moonkin. (though they also do offhealing from time to time) as a feral druid I have currently +1.2k healing. 250mp/5 and 10K mana pool.(unenchanted+ common gems) on the off chance I ever need to heal an instance for others or the guild I'm in ever overshoots on the tank and dps requirement and desprately needs healers. I've a running joke with the gm that I'll pull out of the guild bank 125g for the respec + training costs (abet it's only 15g for respec atm ^_^)
DPS wise have fun and good luck whatever you do or how well you do. give the rest of us an updated as it comes and we'll look forwards to any stories you can tell us about your runs as a kitty druid.
ps once kara or another instance starts feeling like farm, get Gift of Arthas for the tank and cut 5 min /hour for the run.
