Switch from Feral to Balance or Resto – Feasible?Follow

#1 Jan 21 2008 at 9:47 AM Rating: Decent
I am frustrated and losing interest as a feral tank, nothing specific just bored I guess. I have been a tank since I hit 70 and never bothered collecting or keeping any gear that was for resto/balance (I know I should have but didn’t). I have also completed most quest in outlands so gaining gear via quests is most likely not an option.

IF I do respec I am leaning to a Balance/Resto build. My play style is mostly PVE but with some BG’s mixed in for fun. I would like to get with going in Arena Team but it is not a high prority at this time for me.

So my questions are:

1 – Is there enough Balance/Resto gear in instances to be worthwhile?

2 – Is Cloth a valid option to start with?

3 – I am high level Alchemist and would not want to drop to p/u leather working. Is there any other sets I could consider? Or is the LW set worth dropping?

Thanks for any input you all have even if you think I’m nuts.

I'm pretty sure picking up leatherworking would not be worth it. I definitely believe it is feasible as everyone tells me to switch to resto at 70 (currently lv 48 feral). If you want decent gear for either balance or resto (resto is probably more welcome in raids and pvp/arena) then just do BG's until you get S1 stuff.

It is feasible as was said before. Between the druid, mage, warlock, and priest D3 sets it should be possible for you to get at least 5 pieces of equipment that would lean toward either Balance or Resto. There are also several good leather spell damage drops to be had from instancing if you want to go Moonkin.

Lunar Claw Pauldrons - Mechano Lord Capacitus (Mech)
Belt from the first SV Boss
Boots off of first Sethekk Halls boss
Moonchild Leggings - Broggok (Heroic Bloodfurnace), or the Kurenai Kilt
Chest piece from Pandemonius in Heroic Mana Tombs.
Moon Crown Antlers - Captain Skarloc in Heroic Old Hilsbrad
Moon Touched Bands - The Maker in Heroic Bloodfurnace
Starlight Gauntlets - Hungarfen in normal Underbog (Very nice for a lvl 63 blue)

That covers the armor, as for weapons there are several nice ones out there just look on Wowhead and run the appropriate instance. Probably one of the better ones drops fron the second boss in normal Shattered halls.

Yes that staff is very nice but it has a requirement that a person be running Karazhan regularly in the hopes of catching that drop. Also, all those mages, warlocks, and shadow priests, will be itching to get ahold on that staff just as much as a boomkin.

Easier targets to start with would be Runesong Dagger and probably the Manual of the Nethermancer.

Thanks for the info guys! Looks like i will start with dropping Herb/Alch and pickup skinning/LW and start grinding leather. I will also work to picking up the items Magictg suggested.

For those that are spec'ed Balance, Do you have a hard time finding groups to accept you? Or should i just focus on going Resto? I just dont want to spec balance and find i have issue getting into groups.

Thanks again.

I had been tanking kara for a while and when we started making attempts at Gruuls I was asked to go Moonkin. I got hooked and now that our guild has a lot more tanks than when we got started I have been sticking to the balance build.

I am lucky enough to get a lot of the cloth and weapons passed on since most of our damage casters already have most of what drops in kara. But I found this list very helpful for just getting started.

Sorta necro, but I need some help here.

I've been Feral pretty much since the patch that made the talent tree viable. That's a couple of years ago. However, lately I've become bored with the DPS approach (I mainly do battlegrounds) to things, probably since I have a level 70 Hunter and Warlock as well.

When I see what a Restoration Druid can do in PvP, not just for himself, but for the whole team. Man, I want to be one of those! I want to run around in +healing gear, tossing HoTs left and right while some poor Feral schmuck is trying to wear through my Lifeblooms and Rejuvenations.

However, there are two problems standing in my way:

1.) I need the right build. I don't have the slightest idea which build to go with. I want to maximize the strength of my healing spells, but I don't want to strut around in Tree of Life form all the time. I'm also allergic to feathers so the Boomkin is a no-go as well.

2.) I only have tank and DPS gear on my character. I figure changing my talent build is far from enough. No point running around in S1 Dragonhide when you need less attack power and more healing power. But where will I get Restoration gear easily without having to farm heroics?

For BG's just pick up the S1 resto stuff - resilience is still king when the opposition sees you healing and start targeting you.

I go into BG's (feral specced) and heal all the time - it is a lot of fun. I have 1558 +heal and it is amazing what a difference you can make (even specced feral). My grid mod shows who is in range (by graying out the OOR people). Fighting at a node, we fight off massive amounts of enemies then I realise that not one of us has died during the fight.

Pretty common for me to end up with top or close to top honorable kills for a BG. Lots of fun. I only feral in BG's when I have a healer with me to heal me (otherwise you die too much).
