Destruction warlocks in PVP?Follow

So I'm starting a new warlock on a PVP server. I've got a hard time fighting them in PVP, I figured I'd play one and se exactly what makes it tick.

I've heard rumors that warlocks specced to Destruction talents were especially well suited for PVP because of their high spike damage. Is there any truth to this? Is it only worth it at 50, when you can spec to the bottom of the tree? Is it only viable with copious ammounts of DPS gear?

What would be a good alternative when faced with hostile world PVP?

One on one in most cases, an SL/SL is probably the best as far as survivability. I've had luck as a full destro lock (41 talents) in going against warriors and rogues with all CDs available. I've switched to a 0/40/21 build with just under 25% natural crit and found that it gives me some of the best DPS in BGs and 5-mans but the survivability isn't there. You can't channel life drain without knockback and there's no siphon life to keep you topped off, either.

I'm on PvE now though so your mileage will vary, especially as you can't count on having your cool downs readily available and most of the time, you'll be either ganking or getting ganked.

Regardless: Recommendation is SL/SL. Grab curse of exhaustion, DoT them up and kite them until they die.

I find that by leaving off the 41 point talent in the Destruction tree, I can just barely squeeze enough out of Affliction to get Curse of Exhaustion.

is this a worthwhile tradeoff? Would I be better off ignoring Destruction entirely? I continue to hear stories about Destruction being very effective when you can keep your head on your shoulders.

I don't know what level you are at the moment and time. But since you are on a pvp server, I wouldn't recommend leveling as destro. It is not very mana efficient, lacks survivalbility and bascially it is a watered down fire mage. Now in my experience being a destro lock when raiding at level 70 was really interesting. But as far as pvp goes, it just lacks alot of survivalbility and mana efficientcy.(forgive the spelling if there was)

All I can say is :

Drakedog

Lvling as an destro lock isnt the smartest thing to do but its possible.
My warlock hitted 60 recently and i lvled destro all the way, that is , together with a fire mage though :) (Curse of Elements, imp scorch ;P <3)
