Trap talents a must for ZA?Follow

My guild ran the first boss of ZA for the second time last night. I had to miss, but I'll be going in for the contiuance tonight. The other hunter is insisting I respecc to get the trap talents in order to have reliable cc.

CC has never been my pride and joy, though I've tried to be at least competent at it. I don't want to embarass myself with traps going wrong left and right, but it seems odd that a particular spec would be almost mandatory.

Does anyone have any experience trying to trap in ZA with the cookie cutter 41/20/0 build?

I'll give you the total idiot answer, then someone with real ZA knowledge can smack me down and tell you the real way.

I don't think it would be necessary, based on my very limited experience. Most, if not all of ZA is humanoids and beasts, right? So hopefully your guild is bringing a mage or two to polymorph the humanoids, leaving the beasts to the hunters. If your trap gets resisted or breaks early, you can use fear beast.

But as I said in the beginning, this advice does not carry any credibility, as my ZA experience is very, very limited.

If you need to trap depends on group setup and your tanks equip.
I have done 5/6 of ZA until now and I only trapped a mob or two before the 1st boss (and that was not really needed).
All other pulls we did not need to cc a mob.

I could have trapped those mobs with ease without speccing into traps (although I have those talents as I'm 5/20/36 specced atm). If you have a little head start you can trap the mobs at least two times which is more than enough time to kill one opponent after which a tank is free to pick up your mob.

Fearing however is not applicable there. The big pulls are humanoid only, and even if you could fear something, it might run into another group of mobs which will result in a wipe.

Before the Tiger/Lion boss, there's a part where you can use your traps to help AoE a bit. Not that it helps all that much, but it should be enough to help take down an enemy or two. Other than that, I've mostly just stopped a mob or two if they are peeled off the tank(s). No real planned trapping in ZA is necessary, unless your tank is undergeared for the encounters.

You can of course toss down a trap or two on some of the bigger trash pulls, where there's several less dangerous enemies. I can't seem to recall if those lions were elites or not...

I can answer only from my own experience. I do have Talented traps, and I've never trapped anything in ZA. I keep Talented traps mostly for Heroics, but have been considering a respec for a while now.

It is not a must for ZA. The only time I have to trap in there was during Moroes fight. Mage+Hunter combo for your chain trap target is the eassiest way if you are not spec for trap. Who cares if a mage helping you on your chain traps *if stuff go bad like resisted*. The whole team is in it to win it.

If you thought Moroes was scary in Karazhan, be prepared to poo your pants when you see him in ZA.
