I half expected an actual guide when I clicked it. Oh well. I guess this also works

I was hoping for something funny or a parody or spoof or SOMEthing that would elude to Ret's uselessness. This was just lazy.

I want my 10 seconds back.

The simple truth is that this is the best ret deserves.

I was expecting a joke and all I get is common sense!?

Shame on you, Bodhi. I expected more from someone who shares a nickname with that awesome vampire from Baldur's Gate II.

Am I the only one who found exactly what I expected in here?

I rolled a Pally a long time ago. I didn't really know what tree to focus on...I think he wound up a bastardized mix of whatever looked good at the time. I fancied him an up-and-coming tank, so I set about getting him squared away with a sword and shield (couldn't stand the omfgdelay on 2h maces) and eventually got so bored with him that I dropped him like a bad habit.

Then I watched our Kara MT pally tank multiple mobs to the point where CC was rarely necessary and as a Hunter, Multi-Shot became an invaluable tool on trash to keep my dps on par with the best of the other dps classes in the raid group. I decided to give Paladin another shot, only my fugly human Paladin seemed best left to the role of bank alt. I rolled a new Draenei Pally, used my 70 Hunter to keep her in reasonable gear (splurged on a Black Malice for 19 and upgraded to a Cobalt Crusher w/ Lifestealing for 29). And I'm 100% Ret so far. Note that with the exception of my 2h mace, none of my gear is enchanted (or even reinforced). My chest piece is blue (Shining Silver Breastplate...was good at 24...meh at 30). The rest are greens, and they're not even all up to date (I refuse to pay 10+g for a piece of green gear below level 65).

There is absolutely nothing more fun for me these days than running up to a same level mob, judging SoC and re-sealing, and then watching as my "first attack" goes off. Running around Ashenvale tonight, I was in the undead druid cave place and on one occasion, my judge SoC -> first attack smacked 69% of the mob's life off on said "first attack" (crit SoC proc + crit melee + lifestealing + weapon chance on hit proc). It was friggin' beautiful, and those of you who know Pallies know that SoC is a Retribution tree talent.

I've read and heard that Ret Pallies really don't cut it after level 50-55 or so. Since you don't "roll" a level 70 specced toon, and after my disappointing and boring experience leveling a Pally in anything *but* the Ret tree, I'd say roll a Pally, work your way down the Ret tree, and smack the everloving **** out of some mobs. It's great fun. If it tapers off just before you get to Outland, re-evaluate then. Hell, I'm supposedly 5 levels or so from being able to effectively AoE grind, at which point I may respec just to try it out. Until then, however...

No one, even those that go "lawl ret" constantly, ever said leveling Ret is a bad idea, and you don't need a "guide" for mid 20s gear/talents/etc ... I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm paying attention to what you wrote to tell you that no one will pay attention to what you wrote.

No one really cares about what you do when you're leveling. There aren't guides, people crunching numbers, testing leveling specs on the PTR... none of that stuff for leveling. Honestly I'd go as far as to say the game doesn't even really start until 70. Heck even Blizzard, saying they don't care what happens to old raids (pre-BC raids now, and BC raids when WoTLK comes out) shows that Blizzard doesn't give one flip about what happens while you're leveling, only when you're at max level.

haha, yeah, i have to admit my first thought was "why didn't he post this sooner and save me those countless hours putting mine together..." then i realized it had to be some lawlret post.... i was just hoping there'd be more than 7 words.....

A decent leveling guide can save a newbie a lot of time and wasted effort. Even a very simple one, just for new Hunters:

Quote:
You're a Hunter, you don't need a goddamn melee weapon, stop needing on Sang'thraze.

would solve many PUG arguments/wipes that people are otherwise doomed to endure. Or for retadins;

Quote:
Don't put talent points into improved Blessing of Might! It is slightly less productive than slapping yourself in the groin with a cat!

I can understand that Blizzard wants to create new content and thus everyone focuses on the new content, but they should recognise that this isn't a sustainable situation. They can't create new content, endlessly, forever and ever. They will run out of syllables to name raid bosses with. They could solve this pretty easily just by updating all old-world raids with a Heroic version for WotLK. Then everyone gets to enjoy Molten Core without getting the feeling that Ragnaros is a @#%^.

That said, there are leveling guides available. They're of the "get to OL's as quickly as possible" sort.

Edit: I typed guild instead of guide >.<

They would still have to add new instances. The problem is that, regardless of difficulty, the old stuff gets boring.

I can do the same quest at every level within a 15 level span, solo (And backwards, for comparison sake). But, you know what? Somewhere, it is going to get boring.

I would like them to refurbish the old content though; so much of that content is rich in lore. With a little bit of the modern touch, it could be great.

There is something to be said for brevity. Especially when the core audience is so obviously handicapped when it comes to a understanding of even the most basic elements of end game pvp and pve.

Is it just me, or no matter how many times we say it, people just don't get that experiences at 3X do not equal experiences at 70? At 70 this quote would look like:

Quote:
