Which variation of combat maces do you prefer & why?Follow

#1 Jan 20 2008 at 8:52 PM Rating: Decent
I've been reading this board since i got serious about my rogue (thanks again for the key bindings guys, much appreciation there).

Currently 16/3/42 for sh*ts & giggles, but thinking of going combat maces for arena 2's (only bracket i ever faired decently in when i had a good healer)

What variation of combat do you prefer & why, w/ or w/out riposte, lame "stun" effect or no?

NOTE::: (READ THIS PART) Just trying to get some opinions on WHY you like your version. I've already read stickies pvp'd as combat etc. just looking for some personal experiences to help me pick. Not a "rate my new (36/12/13) build" or a "which spec R best?" thread.

Thanx for your time. and i fully expect to have about 100 views before a couple of you main guys respond =)

EDIT: By "lame stun effect" i mean the talent pts one thats low in the tree, NOT the badass "wholereason for specing maces" weapon talent. Just clearing that up

Bumping mainly because I am curious as well. I am most interested in what the current combat mace gurus think about with or without rispote. I know the Dema build includes it. Just curious to what the folks think same as the OP.

Thanks

Personally, the strongest version of combat maces right now is, IMO, 20/41/0 with no riposte. I don't think it's needed in arena, because you shouldn't be going toe-to-toe with any melee DPS anyway. Putting 6 points into an ability that's situational but reduces your overall damage and utility in a build that's all about damage and lacks utility is kinda stupid TBH.

And just to clarify, here are my two mace builds:

Second build would be better on a 2 DPS team where CC is going to be important.

Then again, mut is probably better for double DPS anyway.

Well I use this spec for BG grinding.

It works out fairly well.

Oh, and that "lame stun effect" is Blade Twisting and its not worth the points.

AR/Prep with maces is still good too... why don't you just try a couple of them and see what suits you?

The combat tree is pretty much cookie cutter. You'll note that mine differs from Theo's by only one point. Riposte isn't a bad skill per se - but it's awfully expensive. You have to fling six talent points at an ability that is effective against a limited number of classes, all of whom have counters to make it less effective (evasion+shiv, weapon chains).

I would dump seven points into subtlety because in 2's you'll find that a well-placed sap or a well-timed, long range blind, will win the game for you.

My points in Assasination are just extra crit, damage, CP's, energy, and improved EA - which should all pretty much speak for themselves.

Edit - I didn't look at Theo's second build until after I wrote this. Almost identical.

Theo, my rogue is combat swords but doing some casual arena and more PVE. What build would you recommend for him?

The first one with sword spec instead?

P.S. My 2v2 partner is a mage.

20/41 is good for those who want to do both, Mr. BigDaddy.

Thanks Eon.

I'll have to respec from my apparently silly 17/44 swords build.

riposte is imperative. it's a cheap as hell sinister strike. and don't be silly, if you are playing in a 2s bracket with a healer, then you are the one who is going to be fighting the melee dps. yes they exist. yes you are one of them. honestly....

combat is best WITH riposte. plus the extra parry chance gives you a higher effective hp. the end. period. .

Riposte is not a must.

Especially since it costs 6 talent points to get.

There are plenty of things in either a 20/41 or 11/43/7 build that would be more useful.

I levelled from 1-70 and played a good bit at 70 and have never had Riposte. And there hasn't been 1 time I've said "Man, I wish I had a little more parry chance and an instant attack I can use after i parry."

Edit: Typing on a laptop > me.
