My friend is wanting to make a Blood elf pally but he wants me to ask what is the best spec which I have no clue cause I have never had a paladin.

It really depends what he wants to do at end game if he ever gets there

if hes going to level it go from 1 - 35 as a ret pally, then switch over to protection cause you get some good things for AoE grinding.

If he wants to heal - go holy
If he wants to tank - go prot
If he wants to DPS - get another class.

Short version: usually level ret to at least 35 where you can get reckoning in protection and switch. Or stay ret, finish to level 70, then respec for end game - usually protection for tanking or holy for healing.

Read the FAQ link I posted, it not only tells all builds but also gives talent specs to go for Dependant on your playstyle. Ret is good, as you kill things quicker and the good protection talents are available until later levels. With Prot and reckoning you can start to take on a bunch of mobs at once - like 4-6 at a time, melee, or a couple casters at a time and can survive longer, but dps is lower on single targets. Ret can handle a mob or two at a time, but you can jump to another fairly quickly and always can heal yourself as well.

If your friend wants you to make one, find out why. Do they have another motive? Is he/she in a guild that needs a paladin? Ask why they need it and spec for that if thats what they want. If not just start a class you want to play. If you are duoing with this person, meaning you two are playing together primarily, what class are they as there are classes that complement each other very well, ie I have a mage that I duo with a druid. Two people together can really get through a ton of the PVE content while leveling fairly easily with the occasional group as needed.

Read that sticky, it will tell you all you need to know about the class. You might even find its not the class for you. Or you may find you love it, all depends on what you are trying to do. If you are new to the game, and have no clue and are just following what your friend said, I would as the questions if you dont know or if you do, post the answers here because starting out you shouldnt be forced into a role before you even play the game.

honestly, leveling all the way to 60 as ret is even more than ever the fastest way w/ the changes to quest xp. and if he wants dps, other classes are certainly easier. but if a paladin is what he really wants and he wants dps, make sure he's ready to do a lot of research and work to get the gear that's right for him. More than likely if he's looking at a paladin rather than a warrior or rogue though he's wanting holy or prot. either way, 1-60 leveling ret is the fastest. after that ret is still fast but its probably a good idea to settle into which ever spec best fits his end game goals.

Oops, sorry, your friend wants to make one, gotcha. Everyone said the principle, and if hes in a rush I think most other classes can get to 70 much faster imho, lol, but I do love my pally, my first toon :)

So what are HIS reasons? Are they for a guild, to play duo with you? Or just to get one up. Hopefully her doesnt think you have to be a pally to get that new hero class as any class can unlock it, or will be able to. From the looks of things too the new expansion wont be out til the end of 2008, from various gaming site reports, but even that is pure speculation, so let him know he will have PLENTY of time to level, whatever he wants to do.

So basically ya, ret til 35 the prot, or stick with ret til 70, as another said, questing/xp til 60 is so much easier anyway after 2.3, and some changes to ret in that patch also added some more viability to ret.

Ill bet Jan. 2009 as the release month. Put it out exactly 2 years after TBC.
