Some More Typical 20-30 Questions About Druid?Follow

#1 Jan 19 2008 at 10:27 PM Rating: Good
Does Druid really become fun at 30, or is it just becoming apparent that it's not a class for me? I really enjoyed 10, and then I enjoyed 20. Now I'm starting to really despise how slowly I kill things and how after like 3-5 kills I need to pop out and kill. It's nice not having downtime, but I suppose I'm more used to burst damage.

So the question: should I play to 30 (currently 27) or 40 and then decide if I should keep going? At 70 they seem like a blast, but at 70 any class seems fun haha.

yeah, play to 43 at least. you dont get your first DD finisher until 32 i think, and leader of the pack comes in at 40. imp LotP comes maxed at 42, and with feral druid crit rate youre getting a lot of free healing over the course of a fight. your down time should reduce pretty drastically once you get ferocious bite, and itll be nearly non-existent once you learn imp LotP.

Those are slow druid levels, for sure. Cat form is almost not worth it without ferocious bite, especially before you get all the goodies in the feral tree that make it worthwhile (leader of the pack, imp LotP, all the crit/dodge/etc, and ESPECIALLY Mangle).

For the record, when you get Mangle, the world opens up. This one skill is game-altering. Some 41-point skills (like my mage's water-elemental) were nice complimentary skills. Mangle takes the place of claw, doing more damage and making your DoTs impressive and worthwhile.

Just saying, druid does get better. Try it until at least 32 when you get FB. If that doesn't give you the damage burst you want, then yes, try another class.

I started my druid about one month after release, back in 2005. Levelled him quite quickly to 10 and got bear form. Had him stay on standby for a few months and took him up again.

Levelled the bugger to 20, and simply lost all interest in him. I found him extremely dull, not having any good finisher in cat form and so on.

Six months ago, I gave him a new shot. Levelled him to 30, found that I still thought he was extremely boring and "stabled" him again. Two months ago I again gave him a shot. Hit 34 the same day and got "bitten" by the feral bug.

My druid is now lvl 65, and I can honestly say that from lvl 34 and up, he has become more and more enjoyable for each level he gains.

I must admit that I found it extremely difficult to get to 34, but since then? Wow...

the only time i realy liked the 30's was when i was on my druid, and it got better in the 40's, i got lvl 44-54 in zul'farrak, i didnt get all the experience just from there but every time i got one of those levels i was in zul'farrak.

the prospect of merging with the third... hmm...

I say this all the time, but for me the Big Druid Moment was level 36 when I got pounce - everything just got so fun from then on. Druid defintely takes a while to take off. As you're already 27 I'd recommend sticking to the mid-30's and seeing how you feel then. You'll be killing stuff much faster.

In addition to those faster kills, I find the high survivability of druids really fun, maybe that will also be the case for you. At 40 you get dire bear form and that's pretty much indestructible. These days (at level 66), I don't even bother to count how many mobs are in that camp before I run in.

That said, you say you're used to burst damage. If that's really the playstyle you most enjoy, I dunno if you see the huge crit numbers on a druid you get with a rogue or a mage (I know I don't, but maybe I'm alone in that) - lots of our damage comes from bleed effects, etc. You'll kill stuff fast enough but if it's unstatisfying for you not to see Big Yellow Numbers that might be a problem for you. Someone else will correct me if I'm wrong about that though, I could be.

I'd agree with Teacake, the numbers that you will crit as a druid are quite low, my max after 3 months at 70 is 3.3k. However you have so much survivability that you just don't die. I would recomend getting certain things hotkeyed, shifting to cat, bear, travel, and eventually flight form. Also I found that leveling from around 28-33ish there weren't many good quests around, but this was also pre 2.3 when they nerfed xp per level.....thanks blizzard for making it easier

Thanks for the advice guys, rate ups all around. I played him last night, and this morning, and I'm loving him. I think I just needed a break or something. I'll keep playing him to at least 39? Why not right. I love the 30s bg bracket anyways, so if I get bored I'll have something that can play that bracket, if I'm not bored I can keep leveling. Smiley: grin

Not to worry. The second you get pounce, you will fall in love. Oh, and getting Ferocious Bite isn't a bad thing either.

I'm certainly enjoying travel form. After I hit 40 I might get 5/5 Furor or whatever so that way I solo a bit easier. I'm loving this guy now, I'm thinking by the end of tonight I'll be 32 at least!
