As simple as energy should be, I'm confused. Here's what I know:
(Assuming I've been in cat form for > 10 sec) I start with 100 energy.
Energy ticks at 20 per tick, no matter what.
My claw (no mangle yet) costs 40 energy, my FFF costs 0 energy, and my rake costs 35 energy.
So, after using rake, FFF, and 2x claw, how can I have 38 energy?

I (very) frequently end up on values like 38,39, and other non-multiples of 5. I have also seen my energy tick 20 > 39 before, so I guess you don't always always get 20 energy from a tick.
i get that a lot too. no idea how that happens, or why, but i know its not because of misses, dodges, parries, or blocks, because ill get a chain of attacks where every one will hit and ill come out with some weird number like 11 or 29 instead of 10 or 30.
Word on the street says that you lose 1 point of energy if your special attack fails.

Sinister Strike (40 energy) looses 10 energy when it fails to hit, so it must be a % of the overall value.
Also, I've noticed that sometimes my ticks give 21 points of energy instead of 20. I have no idea what causes it (I even have been meaning to ask) but sometimes I'll tick from 19 energy up to 40 (just an example it's not always those particular values) which is really nice.

it isnt just misses or dodges or parries thats doing this. its on specials that land that it happens. a special that doesnt land will be reduced, but its usually by a set amount. there are plenty of times ill mangle something down to 0 energy, only to realize that i really have 1 energy. and then the next tick puts me at 20.

it could be like a crit + energy, so sometimes it will crit and you will gain 28 energy and other times you will not crit and get in the regain of 18-22 energy
