Hi all, longtime lurker, first-time poster.

I got a buddy who's joined WoW and wants to roll a warlock. We're going to duo a lot, probably on a PvP server. What class would best compliment a warlock? I have a 59 hunter and a 16 alt priest, but no other first-hand class experience.

Which class is the most benificial you you?

Resto druid is warlocks best friend.
Shadow priest is close behind.

Maybe in Arenas...

In any sort of grind/farm situation Mage is wonderful. If you REALLY need the tank use VW or Felguard, but in all honesty a Frost Mage + Fliction Lock is easily doing chains of 15 before a short break - in which case you have Food and the Mage has Water... Both have Healthstones, both have snares, got a set of Fears, Water Elemental, and an extrodinarily fast killrate.

Yes Druid + Lock = longer chains, and Paladin + Lock may be able to do more at a time... but the killrate isn't compairable.

I concur with the recommendations for resto druid and shadow priest for leveling in dungeons. In addition, prot paladins with avenger shield and consecration are extremely benefitial as they provide enough agro on both the targeted and surrounding mobs that I can dot all the mobs up before returning to the targeted mob and not worry about pulling agro. I have a 55 lock with good spell dmg (280+) ;D.

Lately, I've been duoing a lot with my wife's paladin. Healing, tanking, threat reduction...

Anything you like to play.
Imo there is no class combo in WoW that wouldnt work as long as people enjoy what they play.

Just roll whatever suits you and play together.

At high levels, warlocks and mages go really well together. It's a blast of AoEing, downtime, AoEing, downtime, AoEing...

Only have exp of a prot pally. Pretty unbeatable.

Though I HAVE to say - is there REALLY a better partnership than arms / fury warrior and holy priest?

I LOVE it!

Frost mage + affliction lock? Fire mage + destro lock is a better option , both have numerous insane high damaging spells , and yes you will both use fire so curse of elements and imp scorch will increase you damage significant.

For arena its a total different story which will come down on survivability which will make a frost mage a better partner

But, imo affliction + mage is a really bad combo, because before your dots start ticking the mage already has the target half down.

Just my thoughts,

Just make what ever you want to make. It's a game. Just make something that will be fun to play.

If you really can't pick a class, find out the spec the warlock is going to be. Demonology would eventually get a good meat shield (voidwalker and felguard) that could keep mobs off of you. So the other person could go with a caster.

If the warlock isn't going demonology, then the other person may want to go with a melee class, like a paladin. Something that can take lots of hits, while keeping mobs off the lower def warlock. However, even not being demonology, the lock still gets the voidwalker, which can take a good amount of damage, before it dies, so another caster is still an option.

Maybe even go with 2 warlocks.

It's really just about having fun. Go with what ever class you want.

Not necessarily, and a voidwalker doesn't always die. A healing class is probably better than a tank, since a VW can keep mobs off both players. You have to remember that health = mana for any warlock, no matter what the spec is. Not having to stop to bandage/potion up is a good thing. Additionally, a healing class can keep that VW up and prevent its death.

'Lock + DPS class = mobs die before they reach you
'Lock + Tank class = tank keeps mobs occupied while you kill
'Lock + Healing class = Sustainability.

All three combinations work and work well. The tactics you use for each type differ, though. With a DPS class, you might want to do burst damage instead of DoTs. With tank classes Dot and drain works well, while with healers Dots + a finisher are probably best.

In any case, the key to using a VW to tank is aggro control. A tool like Omen is useful, since it provides warning when you are about to draw aggro away from the VW (or the tank, if that's who your partner is). Make sure that both you and your partner have it. If you are partnered with a healer, you will want to know id he is going to draw aggro, so that you can intervene and keep him from taking damage.
