Healing in Outland - When to switch from Shadow to Holy/DicsFollow

My sister guild is getting ready to start in Kara. Im am currenlty leveling up a spriest (lvl 62 right now). My guild mates have suggested that I switch my spec now to Holy and just heal instances instead of questing / instance'ing to 70.

My question to those of you who leveled shadow then respec'd holy, was it easier to do it early or wait till 70. I really like the shadow spec, and do most of my questing solo, so I don't want to hurt myself on the journey to 70.

I don't have any real problems with healing as a shadow so far, so I'm not sure what the best route to go is.

Opinions or experience stories welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Unless the guild is totally overloaded with quality shadowpriests (at least two) or totally gimped on healers (less than three) I don't see any reason why you should switch your spec at all. You will be an incredible asset to your guild as a shadowpriest, and you won't have to put together a second set of gear to do it.

On the other hand, if you're looking forward to being a healer, go for it. My advice would be to switch at 70, and in the meantime start assembling a set of Primal Mooncloth and Whitemend gear. You can make that part of your questing and grinding schedule. If you're not a tailor, you'll probably have to assemble a set of regular instance blues before you'll be ready to run heroics to get geared for khara. With PMC/WM, you can probably jump into heroics as soon as you respec.

Good luck!

a shadowpriest can heal instances (in good +heal gear) until durnhold & black morass (dark portal). i've done it in shadowlabs many times.

if you think it really matters, put just 10 points into holy for divine fury. bring mana potions.

questing is faster leveling than instancing, btw

Stay shadow. You can easily heal up to level 70 instances, and once you get some really good gear you can even heal heroics and Kara as shadow (though it's certainly not recommended if you haven't done it a lot before). Even if you get a group as soon as you log on and go none stop till you log, you'll not only be leveling slower but you'll have less money in the end as well (especially with gathering professions). Stay shadow.

I didn't switch from shadow to holy until level 68. There was no problem in healing instance until then.

Wait til 70, especially if you still need to grind out PMC mats.

with my priest im switching at 65 so i can get power infusion and reflective shield as well as some points in holy and spirit tap. But shadow until 70 seems more effective on money and grinding time

Thanks for all the replys. I'll stay shadow for the time being. I'm not having too much trouble healing right now as it is. I just pick up all the +healing gear I find.

No enchants till I get my 70 gear tho. I have to get my flying mount first.

I personally think that you should switch to holy now and level up via instances. That way when you go back to do quests all the experience with those quest will convert into money. Easy way to make a lot of money quick. Just a thought. Good Luck!

I changed over at lvl 62 and I am having a blast healing instances. I
