Fraid I have to run off... although you did say you have read the stickies...

All of this is covered in the stickies...

Envenom is very specific, but generally useless without 5/5 in vile poisons where it can out-damage eviscerate easily. If you are instancing though rarely will you be using envenom or eviscerate. Generally, Slice & dice & Rupture all the way. You want to have a 5 stack of deadly up on raid targets at all times since you lose a lot of dps using envenom, removing the stack and waiting for it to get back up to a stack of 5.

Standard raid / 5 man setup is deadly in offhand and Instant in mainhand. If you have a windfury totem, make sure you have nothing on maindhand since poisons over ride it.

So, regarding using SnD, if one were accustomed to being a daggers rogue, and only recently switched to swords, would that be a sufficient excuse for never using (i.e., always forgetting to use) SnD?

I guess what I'm saying is, does a daggers rogue (back when they existed) use SnD as much?

As, you can tell from my post above about never using SnD until now, I'll give my opinion on what I originally thought.

To me, a daggers rogue usually is an assas/sub spec... at least that's what I've seen with other rogues... and normal a combat specced rogue is swords or maces. So in my experience of rogues I've seen and saw threads from, etc.. I'd say that dagger rogues don't use SnD much.

But don't quote me on that lol

I never really used SnD until I started reading the Rogue forum here. Even with my messed-up spec at the time, adding SnD to my routine made killing things a lot faster which also meant less down-time for healing up. I try to keep SnD up at all times even if it means using just one CP to extend it a little. I use the stun finishing move a lot now too which I never used to use so that helps a lot in preventing damage to myself.

Go with what the others are telling you on the stats to look for. I'm concentrating on stacking primarily Attack Power and Agility followed by Crit, Hit, Strength and Stamina. I'm no expert but I know that if you kill stuff faster, you don't need all that stamina in normal PVE play. My 62 Rogue is at 5059 HP right now and typically loses 500-1000 HP fighting a mob the same level depending on crits and misses. I have an attack power rating of 950 and a crit chance of 18.45% which I hope is decent for my level. My Dodge is at 27.47% so that helps mitigate a lot of damage. I am finding it preferable to try to take less damage rather than stack stamina to allow me to take more damage but spend more time healing back up.

SnD increases your attack speed by 30%.

Thirty. *******. Percent.

That's a direct 30% increase to your white DPS. It also gives you increased Combat Potency procs, and increased poison procs, so the increase to overall DPS, instant attacks and everything included, is just under 30%.

Use it.

This is my spec now and I love it. -combat swords-

Lightning reflexes is worthless. Riposte? Meh. I'd rather put my points in something else. Endurance is worthless once you get your mount. If you need to sprint and use evasion 1.5 minutes faster you suck.

Malice is a must have for all builds. It's a nice increase to crits. Remorseless sounds good but it's pretty sucky. Better spent elsewhere. Ruthlessness and relentless are must have as well. Like was mentioned stay out of the subtlety tree unless you plan on going deep. You can still sap just fine, just remember to use distraction.

Every rogue should use SnD. That doesn't mean they all should get imp SnD. Imp is nice for longer fights. For a combat build I'd take it.

I just barely got Kara keyed. Have no drops outside of rep, quests or group encounters. I easily out-dps other spec and dagger rogues.

That's actually incorrect.

You get more poison proc from your OH then your mainhand (assuming a 1.5 OH and a 2.6 MH), even with SS spam factored in.

So what's the point of having DP on your OH? Once it's stacked to 5,usually within the first 30 second of a raid boss fight, then all those extra proc are being wasted for the 5minute+ that remain in that fight.

Much better to use DP MH (Yes, it'll stack to 5 a bit slower, but it'll stack to 5 anyway, the few extra second it takes won't matter that much) and get plenty of generous Instant Poison procs for the entire fight from your OH.

Of course, if you've got windfury totem... then you leave your MH poison free and use Deadly on the Offhand.

This thread was really helpful, my rogue is level 62 now and I am still unsure about lots of talents and simply lack game experience. Thank you guys for spelling out that kinda stuff for newbies like us. ^.-
