I am a level 55 lock and recently respec to demo (felguard) from destro/felhunter sacrifaced build. I like both builds due to the high and fast DPS. Affliction is fun, but it takes way too long for the dots to start churning out DPS at lower level instances.
I am trying to figure out a 5-man instance and PVP demo/destro spec that will give me high DPS given the fact that my gear won't be as good as some of the folks on this forum. I don't play too often and will probably only get blues and purples from 5 man instances and BG.
I have this build planned out so far. There is 10% crit from talents and spell dmg from Demonic Knowledge. If mana is an issue, I will sacriface felhunter instead of having succumbus out for the spell dmg and 10% shadow damage.
This might be the 40/21 spec that I have heard about.

The spec you've heard about is actually 0/21/40 with the 21 points up to demonic sac for the extra shadow damage from saccing succy. This spec relies heavily on your crit and will only work best when you get T5 gear and up. Probably one of the best dps builds before that would be 41/0/20 but if you don't like being affliction you can always spec w/e you feel like.

Incorrect. He IS talking about 0/40/21 and yeah, it looks like he got it right.

So, to you theorycrafters, which is a better raid spec, 40/21 or 21/40? Which has the higher damage potential?
6/44/11 is the specc in t5 content with the highest damageoutput.

Quick question... Does the spell damage bonus from Demonic Knowledge and Master Demonologist provide more damage and overall utility than either sacrifacing a felhunter for mana or a succubus for 15% shadow damage bonus?
In mathematical terms, is Demonic Sacrifice (succumbus) > [Demonic Knowledge (succumbus) + Master Demonologist (succumbus)]? This is for a pre-raiding, 5-man instance spec where I will have dungeon blues and two pieces of pvp gear (gladiator spell blade and probably a ring) and be specced 40/21.

i am speaking about raiding.
your average damage is higher than a destrobuild, if one of you shadowbolts get reistet due to you not being at hitcap your dps suffers severly.
if you are at 202 hitcap you probably won´t have enough +dmg und +crit to make you shadowbolts hit hard enough in mid-end ssc/tk.
if anyone could be bothered to do the math than you´ll see.

Ha. I always spell that word incorrectly for some reason...
I never had a caster before Oaken and I would like you to recall your pre-raiding days, but is spell hit vital for pre-raiding/level 70 5-man instances or can I put that aside for spell damage and spell crit.

you´ll need 5% +spellhit pre-raiding which can be easily achieved outside raid-content
I respecced 40/21 like that and I appreciate the DPS. It takes some getting used to with not having an instant Corruption in PvP but it's a fair trade off. My suggestion is to take the talent out of Manafeed and put it into Demonic Resilience for the little extra bit of -crit% and demon survivability. Have fun with it in PvP.. most of the time, you'll die before you run out of mana anyway!

Send in your Felguard.
apply your designated curse, apply Immolate, apply Corruption
and than cast shadowbolts until you have to reapply a DoT.
