I just started up my mage again(I'm an altoholic, but I love mage) and he's JC/mining, and I'm thinking of switching JC to tailoring (I already have a 350+ enchanter) Should I wait, or just do it now. My mage is 48 atm(forgot if theres any good stuff at that lvl) He's frost, but I have been thinking of going fire
Altaholic, you and me both :)
At any rate, one thing to consider is that you can really power level tailoring up to 300 pretty quick, didnt start any skill on my mage til almost 60, then with all the alts and a friend who plays collecting cloth is cake and adds up fast. Tailoring will help you TREMENDOUSLY as the crafted epics you can make for fire or frost are on par with T5 gear, so my lock and mage are both tailors. Remember, you cant enchant soulbounds :( sucks which would really help, or I mean you cant enchant your own unless its on another account for some reason.
Usually do what you like, but if you have many alts, maybe save JC.mining for another alt, the option is always there to unlearn and relearn a new profession, I know its alot of work, but might not be as bad.
AS for fire/frost I levelled fire and switched to frost at 50, LOVED fire, love love loved it. At 50 you get a pet and you get more frost damage spells, PLUS when you hit 58 you get more access too plus damage gear which I now look for first even before intellect, trust me, youll have plenty of intel as most item and quest drops in outlands get you started right away with stam intel AND PLUS CRIT AND PLUS SPELL DAMAGE. Prior to that around your level and into the 50s, look for frozen wrath or of frost damage type gear, HUUUUGE difference, when your frostbolts have added damage, so to, will your crits from shatter and winter;s talent along with empowered frostbolt, more damage, more control and more survivability.
Outlands respawns and such along with low level aggro can be a pain in which frost really shines, the control you have and survivability is insane. I did ramps not too long ago with an elemental shammy and another mage and topped the charts for DPS by almost 120K of which less than half was my water elemental, plus elites are more of a snap.
Dont get me wrong I am a fire mage at heart and will prob respec at 70 and continue as fire, and it is great to level with, but with all my new crit and damage gear in outlands I tried respeccing fire just to see, and honestly, even with combustion up, the damage was not much higher, and now frostbolt seems to proc frostbite soooo much more after the recent patch, along with my crit percentage and the winter's chill talent, only 2 points, an the stronger frostbolt through talents - the crit damage was almost even, and I crit more often as frost these days, Icey veins is such a great bonus to all of this too.
BUt in the end, of course its up to to you, but your are so close to some real frost smacking talents, see pet, that perhaps wait until a few levels into 50 to respec. PLus that frozen wrath and of frost gear over intel was again, HUUUGE, kill quicker and still less downtime really.
EDIT I do see you have alot of the frost and plus damage, good job!
