Is there a possible shaman tank build? I haven't seen any at all so...Can Shamans tank?

Any class can 'Tank' only 3 do it very well!

If you can hold aggro and if the healer can keep you alive while your being mashed by mobs then yes you can tank.

As for a Shaman tank build I wouldn't recomend it

The Shaman is probably the best tank replacement class. Wearing mail armor and being able to use a shield, they have access to the second best type of gear. They have no problems at all with one half of tanking - aggro generation. Beyond the threat generated by melee attacks, Shamans can cast Frost Shock which creates extra threat, use self-heals to add healing aggro, and finally use Chain Lightning for AoE situations.

However, the other half of a tanks job is damage mitigation, and in that department Shamans are severely lacking. With Pre-Heroic gear, shamans can reach about 10k Armor and 12k Health unbuffed. This is appropriate to tank any non-heroic 5 man instance. With epic gear, about 13k armor 16k health can be reached, which is not very much of an increase compared to pre-heroic gear. 13k armor give only 50% damage reduction, which is simply inadequate compared to the mitigation levels reached by primary tanks. Still, Shamans have successfully off-tanked in 25 man raids and Kara. By comparison to the other "Main" Tanking Classes in the table above, Shamans would rate as follows:

Huh, shows how little I know :P That makes interesting reading, I wonder how many Pug's would take a Shaman tank?

I've tried tanking. No good. Unless u seriously outgear/outlevel the mob/instance, u'll get hit too hard. The healer has to waste too much mana to keep u alive.

Also the DPS can't go full out or they'll steal aggro as well.

We lack other tanking stuff evades. But, when it comes to emergencies, we can hold the mobs for a while. e.g. pull mob off healer and wait for MT to get there.

IMO, definitely not a good idea for Shaman to try to be a MT.

Yes, my understanding is back in the day (basically, a long, long time ago) people though that shamans were viable off-tanks (I don't know that anyone ever thought of them as viable main tanks, but I could be wrong, I suppose).

That's long since gone by the way side. I'd honestly rather spend an extra hour looking for a tank for any OL instance than take a shaman as the tank, even if they seriously out-leveled and out-geared the instance. They just don't have the threat holding tools or the mitigation to be viable tanks.

well it is fun tanking non heroics at times, makes me want to collect the Ele shaman S1 gear for the new 4 set bonus =P

But ya, if you have good gear with enough stam holding aggro and keeping you up is not bad at all in non heroics, having a pally present for concentration aura helps too.

if I ever got enough PvP gear I always thought about a spec to goof around in and tank non heroics, here is what I came up with:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shaman/talents.html?5503015500001505100005050001550013000000000000000000000000000

this gives you some of the burst of a ele shaman with the ability to negate some more dmg using enh talents.

the enh talents also help decrease mana usage on shock spells, while I wouldnt melee crit often at all when I do my next shock is cheap, and I also will attack faster which aint half bad when your using FT, and I even get parry, even tho this reduces some of my threat regen i rationalize it like this, I wont get much threat from my melee strikes anyhow and this does not affect any other damage i would do including flame tongue procs.

I liked this one better http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shaman/talents.html?5503015500001505100005050001550013000000000000000000000000000
I made it up myself. I tried to foucs on keep the melee aspect of a tank with some fast shocks and high buff totems.

this one's pretty nice, you don't get crit with elemental shields and you get armor and some other good tankish abilities: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=hEczEbho0cZVicdxx

i do remember tanking in rfd some time back (this was the time where shamans had real agro problems) any way i could keep normal mobs on me whilst dw and have my stone claw totem down to make sure i didn't have to many mobs on me it seemed to work quite well but i did have a good healer and some very good dps to keep the fights short the only bit i had to use a shield was on the last few pulls of the instance i wouldn't wanna try it in any high lvl instances tho

as for tanking for leveling, my shaman alt does just fine. I have a bit of experience with raid tanking on a warrior, and much of that knowledge helps.

Threat is generally not a problem for Enhance leveling specs, upfront spike dps, constant higher dps, both make holding intial and late agro fairly easy.

the totems are what make the leveling shaman tank worth more than many other non-protable classes. versatile changeable tactics for many situations, pre 70.
