Tier 4...worth it?Follow

I was comparing the epic non tier tank items that drop in kara (i.e. maiden/curator(leggins,opera) to those of the tier four and realized they have alot more gem slots than any of the tier 4. The rest of the stats are close to the same, but I'm guessing that if I had all the epic non tier tank items that dropped in kara that I would have about almost 1k more HP and still plenty of block/dodge/parry compared to the tier 4. So I was just wondering would it be worth it to get the tier four or focus on the non tier epics?

The point of the tier items isn't purely statistical, it's the good stats and the set bonuses.

The non-t4 tank items are pretty good if you can't get your hands on the t4 gear. The major pick up that t4 has are the set bonuses. Other than that you can do just as well w/o t4 as you can w/t4 if you know how to tank.

Really, the set bonuses on T4 (for prot warriors, at least) isn't all that great. Most of the non-tier stuff from Kara is better than the tier 4 stuff.

Are you kidding me? The set bonuses on the tanking set are absolute garbage, especially considering the legs and the gloves are horrible, unless you can't get anything else. The shoulders and the chest are good pieces, but it's hardly worth getting more for the set bonuses unless it just happens to be what drops for you, and you can't get the gloves from Maiden, the Wrynn leggings, or the badge legs.

I'm not trying to be an *** here Ruin, but did you actually read what you wrote before you posted it?

"The point of the tier items isn't purely statistical, it's the good stat(istic)s and the set bonuses."

The fact that you contradicted yourself in the same sentence aside, if it isn't about tanking stats, what is it about? Aesthetics so you can look good while you get pewpewed by the raid boss?

Edit: Haha, it edited another word for a male extremity into Richard.

Looks are the most important part of this game. I mean, what's the point of taking down a raid boss if you can't look damn good doing it? Smiley: confused

Yep, it'll do that. It's comical when talking about the VP of the US. You'd be amazed at what other words/phrases it censors.

I personally love my T4. I'm not going to bother trying for the legs because I have the badge legs. I have the boots of elusion? from Kara trash drop, which I'll keep.

The Head, gloves, shoulders IMO are fine. Still waiting on chest.

I'm also a big fan of blade turning after a parry for the additional 200 damage protection chance. Yes it's not going to stop Nightbane from doing 3-5k on you, but every little bit helps.

Also, looking like Preditor is cool. Smiley: wink

If you had read it properly you would have understood.
I said "The point of the tier items isn't purely statistical, it's the good stat(istic)s and the set bonuses."

In other words, while the T4 Items may not have the awesome stats that non-set items have, they still have good stats and the set bonuses, so people don't get them PURELY for the stats.

So in no way did I contradict myself.

2/5 set bonus improves your parry avoidance/mitigation. How is that not worth it? yes it's only 200 damage, but that's like 4% reduction of 5k damage. statistically that's rather good. if you have 12k armor, that's about 2700 armor. if you have 15k armor that's about 3520 armor.

That's just the pure statistical aspect of 200 damage shield when you parry.

4/5 set bonus improves your next damaging attack by 10%.

so you get 10% more damage after a revenge... that's a nice increase to shield block damage for routines...

Yes you will probably have more HP (TTL) if you use the non-T4 sets, and you should really look at what kind of fight your going into to determine what set your wearing. An avoidance set, a straight up armor/hp mitigation TTL set, or a TPS set.

T4 gives gear options for itemization, which warriors require to tank well.

That played a major part of it too. I perfer to use my boots of Elusion for the +dodge. However I also got another Kara set of boots from....??? that have +Parry, same armor and basically the same stats... those sit in my bank collecting dust (only took them because it's better that them being sharded, I was lowest geared tank at that time).

So I think if a epic tanking item drops, and you're wearing a instance blue, you're not going to pass in hopes for X-item you're looking for. I suggest getting the upgrade(s), then fine tuning your gear.

T4 isn't particularly great with the introduction of ZA. Sure, there is a tiny bit of "goodness" in the set bonuses. However, they aren't enough to offset the -huge- loss of stamina in comparison to badge, non-set kara epics and za gear. Also, the extra damage for threat can be easily compensated for via SBV gear... which t4 doesn't have much of.
