My love for pallies started way before BC. I was playing my warrior and my friend was on his pally. We would go into UBRS and leave with loot and the rest of the raid scratching their heads and going "How they hell do they do that ?" In Strath, I would be standing there with my 2 hander and my friend would have his shield and sword on. He would pull and hold the mobs and we peel it off him. Very effective. At that time, a pally tank wasn't a very viable option because of the protection tree and what not. Anyways, I only started lvling my pally seriously when BC came out.
I fully agree that pallies are the best and most efficient single target healers in the game. No HoTs ? Roll a Dreanei paladin. I once healed a group in SV and we could've kept on pulling if the mage didn't run out of mana >_> And another time in SV, we got a shadow priest and I never ran out of mana. VE + VP = mana overflow !!! (if I'm not wrong, heals from VE will top up a pally's mana too).
Oh and Zig, your friend is pretty ignorant of the other classes. What CaptainJack said is so true. Yeah, druids have lifebloom but what good is that when you're getting hit for 5k each time and that damn spell is only healing you for a measly (compared to the damge taken) sum every 3 seconds ?
Take it from a prot warrior, I would prefer a pally healer over any other classes...cept for priests, depending on the intstance xD
