I don't know a whole lot about priests and there talents, but we just formed a guild and some of us are past kara as far as gear goes, but we gotta get other guys geared up. We just recruited a priest that is 42/19. The question I have is if a priest is specced like that, are they still viable to heal or would they be better off with more talents in holy?

Here is his armory.

The person linked is wearing primarily pvp gear and is using a pvp spec. They might be ok in Kara if the rest of the raid has decent gear, but I wouldn't think it's going to be very effective compared to a Holy spec priest, or even disc spec with different talents picked.

Do they have another set of gear for PVE and do they plan to respec for PVE? I think those are questions that need to be asked, because if they do then the armory linked is irrelevant :D

He's definitely PvP spec but when I checked his armory he was wearing PMC and a few KZ pieces so he might be able to heal through KZ but beyond that he'll need to respec. Bosses start to hit too hard in later raids for a heavy Disc. build.

Ah, now he's wearing PVE gear. Much better. I still agree though and say that you can't raid with a pvp spec if you expect success.

A disc priest can still do raid healing at Karazhan moderately well, but his spec is definitely still PvP-minded. He doesn't have Inner Focus but does have Martyrdom-- that just screams PvP.

Alright, thanks for the help guys. He must have switched his gear. We will have to talk to him about respeccing deeper into the holy tree for stuff past kz. Thanks for the help.

IMO i have one of the best raiding build that i have tried. If you want tell him to look me up on the armory and if he has any questions create a character on my server and ask me ingame.

We raid M-Thurs 8pm-1am ish....

If he needs help on y he should choose this talent over another, i am sure there is other good priest on your server that aren't selfish that can answer a few questions but in the event that that happens send him to me.

And another thing ask him if he down ranks his healing spells

:)

Right now i have a few stam pieces on right now for the vashj fight last night so dont laugh at my +healing

It's entirely possible to heal quite well as a Discipline-heavy priest. I myself raid with a 41/20 spec. If he's skilled he could do fine. I submit, though, that he really ought to pick up Inner Focus and fill out Mental Agility to be able to get away with it. Inner Focus is too good to pass up.
