lvl 70 and still a noob :(Follow

#1 Jan 16 2008 at 3:58 AM Rating: Good
I recently reached lvl 70, the finall DING:)… and i was so excited… but few minutes later i was... hmm now what? Since lvl 60 only did PvE, so now my gear is poor, 90% q reward (green) items, with 2 blues and 1 purple item (PvP lvl 60 shoulders)… Epic mount doesn’t count, right lol… Since i need purples, i turned to PvP. I’m 41/20/0 btw.

http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Spinebreaker&n=Prarwen

As a 55-60 I didn’t have much problem kicking some behinds in BG, with my bad tactic. And this is how i still fight when I get in direct, close fight with some melee:
Fire Blast>Frost Nova… step back, Arcane Missiles>Blink>Scorch>POM Pyro

It used to work great @ lower lvl bg’s, but now it’s much harder to take them down, coz they are very well equiped.

So can u please give me some advice on:
1. What gear should i get next (i’m a tailor 350, enchanter 175 btw)
2. PvP tactics, spell rotation (against melee’s, rogue especialy)
3. and how to offencely use Ice Block (don’t have much exp with IB at all)

or anything else you think might help me become a “real” mage :), good for further play. Instances etc.

Thanx

respecc frost - 17/0/44 for greater to control and loads more survivablity + crit on demand - makes PvP so much easier. Though in the beginning, until you get resilience and stam, you really just have to live with being canonfodder I am afraid.

I'm with you there... in fact, I haven't reached 70 but I've been thinking about, what I'm going to do once I get there (3 more levels). Unfortunately, I've also only got blues and some greens from quest rewards and etc.

If you don't mind, I'd like to post this on the main forum. See if anyone could give us an insight all around (no matter what character) on how to start "being cool" and having awesome gear.

there is a thread on this every week. Looking through some of the other threads on this topic is typically the fastest way to find spec/gear/trades that suit you.

armory your character mouse over an item click on find an upgrade. Look at which of those possible upgrades is easiest for "you" to get.

Continue this process till you get to gear that is from karazahn or join a guild already there that will be nice enuf to gear you form it.

The problem I see with this is the fact that the armory doesn't update often, so all the gear someone has on there could not be up to date
#6REDACTED, Posted: Jan 16 2008 at 10:33 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) armory updates everyday.. u r not gonna be upgrading your gear any faster then that.

Seriously though. Let me know when my alt is updated to 46 because apparently the armory I'm looking at still shows me as being 43. All right? Awesome... onto other news...

Don't I know it ;-P

Now that we've all had our fun, let's get back to the OP, yes?

Prarwen, as krqllebqlle said, I've known a lot of mages that respec to frost when end game comes around. As I've yet to get into the higher levels of mage-ism, seems as though from the stickies and everything else I've read, fire is good at the beginning levels and then frost. Maybe trying that out may work for you. Good luck though

You're a tailor which is great. The tailored epics are almost on par with T4 from what I understand. Just craft most of what you need. For frost - frozen shadoweave set, and spellfire for fire, depending on which way you go, that will take care of alot of it and really up your vital stats considerably. Then you can craft the others to compliment the set, no need for weeks and weeks of BGs to get the epic, just weeks and weeks of farming or buying mats.

Once you have that gear you can start with your guild, if in one, to start doing heroics and also add to your ensemble or start into Kara.

Trust me, I know where you are coming from as I have another toon I did the same exact thing, just went ahead and leveled him, and unfortunately for him, he doesn't have the luxury of being able to really craft a good set, but my mage and other clothies do. Plus he never did BGs on the way either.

I think the weps and some other items would be best suited through the BGs, they have some great gear, and since you'll have most of your slots filled with crafted, you only need a minimal amount of honor for the few pieces left.

As to the side conversation:
Armory is buggy as all hell. It has me listed in two different guilds still(it bugged on me right when I changed guilds). However, it does show the shoulders I got, gemmed, enchanted and equipped about an hour and a half ago.

Actually, Spellfire/Frozen Shadoweave is almost T5 quality. That said, the two of them suck for PvP. The time spent crafting those two for PvP only would be much better spent in BGs for PvP epics, since I don't get the feeling that the OP is too awfully interested in PvE based on his post.

Thought the poster turned to pvp to get the purples, as they mostly only did PVE and never focused on gearing up, at least I suspected, as it was similar to my first toon who I am now trying to gear up, it may even be that the OP may not know what direction they are headed in terms of end-game content, do they plan to raid and are they trying to get these purples for that. Could be wrong, and didnt realize they might just want to pvp like you said.

Thought that might be the case but didnt want to overstate that, so that is good to know and thank you for clarification.

So to the OP I guess if you want to go onto higher end content in PVE, the crafting set would be best suited and time spent there. For PVP, then like Poldaran said, the time might be better suited to PVPing. I know PVE gear is typically not well suited for PVP, and vice versa, depending on your goals. So its kind of another decision time. I have geared up my original toon in recent weeks, different class, and have played my mage the way I should have my first toon in terms of what I want to do, and not make the same mistakes twice. Ive done pvp with him and really had no problems in BGs, however, if arena is your goal, that is a different story.

So if you are just trying to get purps, and want to PVE - to me, the crafting set might be better suited, for PVP, as he said, then PVP. AS I may have misread your post by thinking about my past experience as a 70 noob :) or should I say inexperience.

I'm not sure which one of us is right(if either of us is), his post just seemed to be a lot more focused on PvP than PvE.

True!

I play PvP just to get decent Epic gear, for start (Am i wrong?). Why? Well, it's a bit hard sometimes to find a nice group to do Shattered Halls and other instances (ppl usually invite and then say there is no room anymore, or leave in the middle of the instance :(... It's more fun and "easier" (I guess)to get Epics fighting in BGs, than grinding and crafting them. Although some crafted items are much better... (like spellstrike hood/pants etc, and i'll get them as well).

I'm in a guild, which is more concentrated on Kara and other raids... but understandably there is no room for us "weak" 70s. I'm sure that's not the case just in my guild.

The main reason i started this thread is to get some advice from much more expirienced playres than me, on how and where to continue once you reach lvl 70, hopping it might help other players too.

Thank you all, again, for your replies!!!

Ah, I see. Well then, there are only a few pieces from PvP I'd bother with then for PvE usage.

1)Gladiator weapon.
2)Epic Bracers.

Really, I'm not too impressed with anything else. So after those, I'd craft your Spellfire/Frozen Shadoweave(pick one and start making cloth now) set and your Spellstrike set. If you decide to stay frost, then get a belt and gloves from either instances or crafted(girdle of ruination for the belt, for instance). If you go fire, get the Spaulders of the Torn-Heart from a questline, and lookup some nice boots(Imbued Netherweave are fine starter boots) or maybe PvP boots. At that point, with it all gemmed and enchanted(lookup the thread with that name here for some tips), you're officially beyond prepared for Kara and beyond.

You'd actually be a decent asset in SSC/TK, though it sounds like you lack experience.

We originally actually didn't go off topic (not in the first few posts). The poster had said for you to go on the armory to see what upgrades you can get and I just simply stated that the armory doesn't update everyday as he stated.

I understand that, and it is good suggestion. Didn't mean to dissrespect anyone
whatsoever...

Didn't take it as such =)

But I do wish you good luck in getting awesome gear. I think everyone's suggestions so far have summed up what I've seen everywhere else.
