Is penetration useful ?Follow

Hi , I'm new to this furom and to WOW.

I have a level 28 mage (fire spec). There is a nice trinket that can be baught we you have enough honnor points. This trinket gives your spell a penetration factor of 10 and +4 stamina. It is called the Rune of Perfection.

I would like to know if penetration is useful against normal mobs. I know that some bosses and some players have magic resistance but do normal mobs have any magic resistance ?

I'm not gonna buy this trinket if it is almost never gonna be of any use.

Unless you're a JC or an Engineer, it's probably worth getting just for the stamina.

Misleading title is misleading.

+4 stamina - can't complain about it.

It was fairly useful being I levelled on a pvp server (yay for ganking :p), wasn't a JC/ enginner and didn't have many trinkets.

Penetration isn't useful in pve - instead there's a stat which determines if your spell is resisted by a mob/ boss via your spell hit rating (higher spell hit = less resists, more resists being proportional as the mob gets higher level than you). There's little gear for this up to lv 70 and not worth putting too much into

Spell penetration is mostly for PvP. It reduces the target's resistance to your magics, meaning they have a lower chance to take reduced damage.

There are some mobs out there with resistances, but you're more likely to find stuff that's immune to fire than resistant to fire.
