Devastate and Sunder Armour?Follow

Hi all,

This may be a slightly noob question, but once 5 sunders are on a target, which attack causes the most threat, sunder armour or devastate? Do I read the threat calculations correctly in thinking that devastate completely replaces sunder armour or am I wrong?

Thanks to all in advance!

devestate does more threat the more sunders that area applied. i would use devestate over sunder anyday, but its threat is still not nearly as good revenge, shield slam and thunderclap

devastate after the 'fix' should always be used over sunder armor for threat.

Thanks all, I will never sunder again :)

Shame that those two points in improved sunder armour are now useless though :(

They're not useless. Imp. sunder armor reduces the rage cost of devastate as well. Knowing is half the battle.

Yes, Imp Sunder reduces the cost of Devastate and is definitely worth holding on to.

You will if you tank multiple mobs. You can use sunder safely on a CC'ed mob without breaking the CC, whereas devastate will cause damage and break the CC. Sunder is still very useful in this situation and does wonders for keeping that formerly shackled undead from heading straight for your healer when he busts out.

True, but so does Taunt. You can taunt CC'd mobs and it works just like it does when they're not CC'd (i.e. you become the aggro target, the healer would need 130% of your threat to pull it), which is rather nifty.

Yes, I taunt mobs directly before breaking the CC and that works fine.

I completely took Sunder Armor off my action bars when I specced for Devastate. I don't use it.

That said, I did put the points in Imp Sunder and I'm very sad that I did. Why, you ask? Because I see no point in it, because I only tank Heroics and Raids, and I am not rage starved there. Quite the opposite. I find myself spamming Heroic Strike just so I'm not sitting at 100 rage.

Heroic Strike is a nice ability though. And if you have Improved Sunder Armor it lets you use Heroic Strike even more. It's not like there's very many more useful places to put those points. Iron Will? lol. Long as you never reach 100 rage, nothing was ever wasted.
