I'm trying to set some stat goals for my newbish 70 Holy Paly. Just to give me an idea of where I should be trying to get to before I even consider Heriocs.

I'm shooting for the pre-Kara stats from the Stickie:

1200 +heal
15% crit
70 mp5

But I don't see anything on how much mana I am going to need. Can anyone give me a rough number to aim at?

Feel free to throw in any other advice you feel will be helpful.

Thanks all.

Whatever mana you are at when you get those stats should be good enough... it'll probably be somwhere between 8-9k.

I had just under 9k mana when I started healing heroics and I did fine. Once you have the other stats you mentioned, the onus will be on the the rest of the group to be prepared for heroics as well, and this will be particularly noticeable on the tank. If your tank is undergeared and forcing you to spam HL to keep them alive, your mana pool becomes kinda irrelevant since there's no way they'll survive a fight where the boss has any kind of cast-interference - like the first boss in SL who fears.

I decided that I personally wanted 10k mana, so I sacrificed a bit of +heal and went for the +30 int to weapon enchant instead of +81 heal, and it's been working well for me so far.

Don't be overly concerned with your +healing or mana pool. If you have the gear to maintain both a good crit and good Mp5, as long as you're not using greens, then you will have the mana pool you need.

After looking at my gear I see that I have plenty of crit and mp/5...but only about 700 +heal. I think I am just shy of 8k mana as well. I'm headed in the right direction...but not quite there yet.

Thanks for the help folks.

A couple of quick questions to no one in particular: (1) when referring to mp5, is 70 the goal to aim for while casting or while not casting? (2) when referring to spell crit, is it 15% total, or 15% Holy? I think these have been answered before but I'm old and forgetful.

Sorry OP, not trying to derail, just get some clarification for myself. I think I know my limitations, and am still trying to gear up, but want to make sure I'm on the right track.

Thanks in advance.

And as long as we are talking about pallys and mana, what is a good pool for a prot pally?

Pretty much what you were born with, baby.

Face it, if you give a prot paladin too much Int they may start to examine if they really want that HUGE dragon/fire beast/demon/etc to focus all of the hate on them.

Introspection is a trait that shouldn't be encouraged in tanks.

If I had a way to reduce my mana even more I would take it!

Hell, half my fights I'm tanking w/o mana anyway.
