Unlucky Coincidence?Follow

#1 Jan 15 2008 at 7:05 AM Rating: Decent
Just wondering for all you Shadow Priests (lvl 62 and above of course) out there if you have the same unlucky coincidence w/ SWD as I do.. It never fails specially if I am coming low on health and am almost positive SWD will kill them that it will somehow always drop them to only 1% and it gives me the nice kickback? Is this an issue w/ MobInfo not giving me the correct amount of health left on them? I really don't us it that often during my quest grinding but just to say, it never fails....

It happens to everyone, or as blizzard might say, "working as intended"

I am not trying to be an *** or anything but if you are soling which i suppose you are, pop out and heal yourself, how many mobs are you grinding at once?

You have a shadow fiend use it. Pop out heal or renew shield and go back to dps, yes it takes longer to kill the mobs but you are not risking the chance to kill yourself on swd.

As a raiding holy priest, it its extremly slow for me to kill mobs for my dailies. Though it is hard for me to die, i hate taking 2 mins per mob. lol

Just take your time and play smart ;)

I would just invest a little time in first aid, kill mobs (to around 50% health or so)use a heavy netherweave bandage and keep going.

Oh, believe me, I always pop out and throw a couple quick flash heals to get me goin again especially because I don't use PW:S in my grinding rotation to conserve a little mana. I was just stating that it seemed to be an unlucky coincidence and I am not always low on health when it happens.. Also, I am only 65 as you must've missed and SF is not yet available to me... And my First Aid is maxed as well, btw...

So... you pop in and out of SF to use heals to get yourself up... but dont want to shield yourself so you dont have to heal at all and waste mana? I dont get it.

Indeed. The cost of healing and going back to shadow form seems to be also to be greater than the mana of one PW:S

at 65 PW: S costs 540 mana what does sf cost 600? now you gain the cost in mana by just throwing the shield out not only that if you had in 2-3 flash heals your being much less mana efficent then just putting up a 540 mana shield that will block out 1125 dmg. i find my self at 55 throwing my bubble and normally being able to melt mobs off before bubble goes away.

The larger benefit in my opinion of SWS is the no spell interupt. I always use it grinding, as spells being interupted slows you down more than the stopping for mana.

Even better idea: bandages that take just as long, heal for almost as much, and net a mana gain instead of several hundred/thousand mana lost.

When solo grinding I don't spam SW:D. I use it when the mob is less than 20% health. I have PW:S, VT, and VE up, so I don't take any real damage at all. The mob then falls dead at my feet. ROFL

I use mind flay to burn em down.

Using SWD is not a problem.. sure it happened to me too that I did not kill the mob and recieved punishment.. but that is only because I was new to SWD. I think as you will play more you will learn how to use it. It takes training you know..

Here is what you can do.. get some addon that shows damage done. For example the scrolling combat text.. aka SCT. Then do a SWD on a full HP mob to see how much damage you will do with SWD on your lvl.. then start using it on the mobs when they have that amount of HP -50/100. You know the issue with mob info is.. that it is not perfect.. it collects the data from the kills you make. The more mobs of the same type you will kill the more accurate it gets. Also when the same type of mob has a different lvl (63-64 for example) the lvl64 mob will have 200more HP for example.

The bulletproof method is to use it alot, and to use it with a 50/100HP "insurance gap" ie. mobinfo says that mob has 3800hp.. your SWD hits for 700.. use it when the mob has 600HP.

I don't use it that much when I solo either. Mostly I will use it when grinding out something when grouped and trying to steal the killing blow, spirit tap FTW.. I was more or less just stating how often I seem to try to time it and seem to put the mob down to 1% or less then 100hp... I also recently read a good thread, think it was in the cast sequence one or something which has helped me out a ton. I now do the following: VT->SW:P, then backup while casting VE and start the 2xFlay when ready, then wand to death. Even when mobs are my level or one above it seems that I now have no downtime, no need to bubble or pop out and heal! Hope this helps others as well!
