Hunter SocketsFollow

Hey, so I have been wondering whether or not I have made the right choice for my sockets. At the moment every socket i have is +8 agility except for 4. 3 of them are different so that i could get my meta gem activated and the other because i am too cheap to do anything nice on my gloves :) So i am currently BM spec and am thinking about maybe going Survival later on in my gaming life. Have i made the right choice in gems or should i have aimed for a few socket bonus'? I figured Agility was win-win because it gave crit chance as well as attack power with a little dodge on the side. Should I instead have gone with 1/2 Attack Power and 1/2 Crit Rating or just all attack power/crit rating gems (the wicked? noble topazs)? Any helpful replies welcome. Please don't say "WTF? Learn to play stupid noob" ^^

PS: Intending to get a 28 crit rating scope when i get a better ranged weapon.

Until you're in 25 person raids AP is the best DPS for non-SV Hunters. At that point the raid buffs become much more consistent, and then AGI scales better than AP.

But the difference is not huge, so I wouldn't worry about re-gemming.

but what will happen to crit if i am all AP? No crit = no free pet focus = less pet damage. and atm my pet does around 50% of my damage if not more. Also, crits make me feel all warm inside

If I've been reading those gear+gem threads correctly, you should be using AP gems until 300 tooltip DPS unbuffed (now, whether or not that means self-buffed with just Aspect of the Hawk, I wasn't sure).

After that you can go with pure AGI gems. I think at 325 you can switch to Crit gems (or was it AGI/Crit?) up to 20% crit, but I can't remember offhand.

It's all unbuffed, if I remember the thread correctly.

If your pet is doing 50% of your damage(even BM hunters), then your damage output is way low, and you need to bring it up. 100% crit won't help at all if your crits only hit for 600(made up number here). Yes crits are great for triggering other things, but if there is no Oompph behind the hits it's pretty pointless.

Thanks for all the useful information. Wasn't really bothered at the start because as BM i was still always in the top 3 in the damage meters, usually #1 and that was before factoring in pet damage, with a mage then rogue just behind me. Only time i get beat is one first day up to curator in kara, the mages AoEs himself up to top really early but with pet damage i beat him in the end. Should i really worry about how my gems are socketed right now though? from what i was reading i seem to be doing ok with all Agi. Or am i just in denial?
