Hey guys. I've pretty much been a ret pally for my entire pally career. I almost never heal in instances, unless I'm backing up because I am DPS, I only tank as I usually have the highest armor there and I can hold hate very well. I am thinking it's time for a change though.

I plan to respec to Holy at 70. Mainly because that's what everyone wants and I do want to attend raids and such. I also feel I would be more valuable in BG's as a healer. Alliance seems to be lacking them on Stormstrike. Even when I'm going full ret and only healing those around when I'm able I still am usually 2nd or 3rd if not first in the BG for healers on the Alliance side, depending on the BG and how many members we have.

I was just wondering if there are any tips about healing in a raid and what I should look out for. Just a few pointers, tips and tricks. I do know that we are supposed to spam FoL to try and keep the tank at full, but is there anything else that you guys might recommend? Add-on's? Should I make sure I'm in the party with the off-tank (if we have one)?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

For raids, I reccomend Healbot, Omen, Deadly Boss Mods, and Pally Power.

As far as your healing role, It will be determined by Raid Leader. Depending on who shows up, Usually I heal Tank or OT. Just listen to instructions from Raid Leader and you should be fine.

That's an Alliance thing, not a Stormstrike thing sadly. My Warlock when I PvP usually comes out top healer in BGs o.O If not number 1, at least top 3 (for Alliance that is).

Anyways, all I can really do is second what Kyuske said and defer you to our resident healbots as the only raid healing I've ever done has been as a Prot, throwing on healing gear, and throwing spot heals.

You will be, have no doubt of that. I can count the number of times I've been outhealed in BGs on the fingers of one foot. Well there is this one resto shammy I see in AV who beats me, but aoe heals are cheating, goddammit! :P

Seriously, alliance apparently have no idea that their healing spells work in BGs. I've seen prot pallies chasing mages around, holy pallies assaulting warlocks, ret pallies...well I honestly try not to look at them, the ones I seem to comeacross are soooo bad. The last thing any of them seem to think of doing is healing. It's not that I mind being top of the healboard all the time, it's just so heartbreaking to find that the person who's second is a warlock...

As for raiding, you'll be starting with Kara no doubt, which is not a hard place to heal in my opinion. Assuming you do your homework and show up prepared (which Dilbrt's lovely sticky will help with), you shouldn't have much trouble there, especially since you'll probably be assigned to the MT or OT what with pallies being the best single target healers in the game and blahblahblah. There aren't really any special tricks to healing a simple raid like Kara - which might change the higher up the totem pole you go. I'm sure Dilbrt or bod would be better suited to answering any questions you might have about those, since the furthest I've raided is ZA.

My advice would be to gear up, learn to heal normal instances and then give Kara a go. I'm a firm believer in learning by doing, but the more you prepare the less it'll hurt when you do have to learn the hard way :P. Feel free to ask any more questions that occur to you :)

*Edit: Arg, meant to hit preview, not post...

My roommate topped the heal meters once as a hunter, without using mend pet. Only Spirit Bond.

And this was the meter for both sides. That was hilarious.

When I was healing BGs, even in instance blues I was always the top healer in the BG. I'm sure it made a huge difference in whether or not we won the battles we did or didn't just by my presence.

Trying to kill an enemy that just won't die can be a very excruciating experience.

If you don't mind me asking, are you respeccing holy because *you* want to or because "everyone else is doing it" and you might as well go along with it.

If it's because you like to do it, then more power to you. If you feel like you "have" to even though you're not wild about it, then do what you want with your character.

I've already told my guild that I started prot and I'm going to remain prot-specced throughout the life of my toon, so they're stuck with finding a role for me to fill as a tank. On the other hand, our guild master recently respecced from retribution to holy and absolutely loves it. Granted, I'm really the *only* tank in our guild in our level bracket (60's) so my job is pretty secure. That, and I've run with our guild master as tank through many instances and she has no intentions of making me change it either.

Stormstrike alliance has plenty of healers, you guys are crazy. Oh.. wait I'm thinking of your premades. Your PuGs suck.

I'll agree with that. Our PuG's are horrible. I got lucky once and got in a nice winning streak in WSG. Only thing was the same 10 kept getting in and we had 3 druids and 3 pallies all 67-69. The rest were hunters and priests. Wasn't even a challenge. We won 7 in a row 3-0. After that the wait times just got too long because no horde were going into WSG anymore.

As for respecing because I want to or not. I really don't know. I never did holy so I don't know if I'll love it or not. I do know that I have tanked HR twice and did a decent job, probably would have done better if I was prot, but I didn't really care for that. I know I don't want to be prot. I do however want to do raids and if I can't get in as ret then I do need to go with holy.

I may like it, I may not. Hopefully I will. Thank you all for the advice. I'll be looking at some of those add-ons and just focus on getting the proper gear to do well in Kara to start. Then I'll just work my way from there!

General non-specific tips? Um bring lots of super mana pots (more than 30) use every other consumable you can get your hands on. Always have your gear fully enchanted/gemmed with the best stuff, even if it makes you do extra farming. Beyond that, I dunno I'm not good at non-specific stuff.

However, if you're having trouble with a certain instance or boss, let me know because I've done pretty much healed everything in the game.
