To be solid in arena requires a lot of practice. I haven't been doing arena's for long, but these are my observations, for what it's worth.
BM - you can really help alot with the initial hammer. If TBW makes the difference and someone dies, that's good, and worth it. I find that if there are two healers, I can smash one while the rest of my group hammer another, and one of them will almost always die. It's been really effective, but I am still at 1550 rating (two weeks), so playstyle might change. Once TBW wears off, I still do good damage, but don't really bring anything unique to the table at that point.
MM - No super pet or immunity to slows/CC make it so you have to play smarter. But the silence shot/scatter shot, if used properly are devastating. You can focus a healer and just fire off silence and scatter whenever you can and it makes a really big difference. Add that these abilities don't go away after 18 seconds and MM gets the edge imo.
For me, I like to raid, and I like to raid as BM/MM. I also can't (read don't want to) afford to respec all the time, so as long as it doesn't appear to be gimping my group I'll stay BM.
Another thing to consider is group makeup. If you have a lot of CC in the group, it might actually be better to have the extra push for the first bit of the arena.
Good luck
