Okay, I dinged 69, did the pre-kara quests and now have the quest for Shadow Labs. I had 440 defense, 9K health and 4.5K mana, dodge, parry, block all in their low 10s (13%, 12%, 12%), and *poof*... now I'm supposed to be a holy/healer-type pally to help the guild out! So, I throw on the holy set I've pieced together as I was leveling, buy a piece or two from the AH and put up around 900 healing with abysmally low crit % and mp/5. Is this enough healing for normal 5-mans like Shadow Labs (these being the 'harder' of the non-heroic 5-mans. Should I try to run some of the lower instances for gear before I try Shadow Labs? I have read the holy pally pre-kara guide, which talks about gear needed before kara, but a lot of that gear is in heroic instances, and I don't think I'm ready to do heroics on this holy pally dude (esp since I'm just learning the holy side of this thing).

What I'm thinking of is spending some time in the lower level 6* instances like the ones in Coilfang Reservoir/Archindoun. Is this a good plan? My gear is here.

Thanks for all the tanking advice... now it looks like I get to see how the holy side lives... Can holy folks farm, or should I use my prot gear for farming?

You suck.

Go put on a dress like Jack and Dil and diddle with health bars.

I would do as you think, go for the lower level instances to get a few pieces of gear, it would at least make things easier for you, and give you some time to practice with the holy side of things in some easier instances.

First off find out from your guild what they want (and what you want) to do with your paladin at 70. Are you a healer or tank? I know paladin is a hybrid class, but don't be a hybrid person until your main set is completely decked. If you're going to be prot, stay prot. If you're going holy, then yeah running lower instances might be a good idea since you don't have much gear. Honestly when I was leveling I didn't get a single piece of gear that wasn't holy oriented until I couldn't get anymore holy gear. Then I started filling out stuff for other specs. Trying to get tanking gear enough to do kara/heroics and trying to get holy gear to do the same is way too much work. Unless you spend all day every day online.

oh BTW holy CAN farm, just not large numbers at once, mostly 2-3 mobs at most.

If something is going to stop you from doing Slabs, it'd probably be lack of experience with holy. I had about the same stats when I did Slabs and was able to heal just fine. Just bring a good tank and adequate CC.

edit: In case it's not clear, I mean normal Slabs. You're definitely not geared for heroics.

Wow, holy pallies are a humorless bunch, KTangent. Are you sure you want to go to the dour side?

Tankadins are that drunk guy in the party with the lamp-shade on his head saying "Woooo I can tank that, hit me as hard as you can!"

Healadins are the ones sitting in the back with a bunch of pocket calculators showing exactly why you can't tank that.

Then the tankadin does it anyway.

Apparently things need to be tanked in this party of mine.

Bout freakin time.

I wasn't comfortable with where you were keeping your slide rule. I can't imagine you were either.

Well I finally wanted to do an instance or two, and like I said... I wasn't going to be doing instances as holy. I've done it before and it was (mostly) boring to me.

Prot's got a lot more juggling involved, and my hands were born to juggle.

Well, no one gave me a pirate hat/lampshade/parrot... so, there ya have it. Not ever playing holy significantly (except waaay back at lvl 30), I think I'll try it for a while and see how it goes.

I do hate the dress I'm currently wearing... bah! But hopefully I'll get some good plate that I can replace it with soon so I can play pally instead of priest. I'll see how holy goes and then if I don't like it, go back to prot.

The above is so far from the truth, it hurts. On my holy paladin I can grab 10-20 mobs, depending on their damage output, throw on concentration aura and then just spam consecration and flash of light/holy light until all the mobs die. This works insanely well unless you get mobs that interrupt heals or stun you (obviously).

I am fairly sure you'd run out of mana real quick.

I know I can easily handle 5-7 mobs if all melee and not majorly hard hitters on my holy paladin. Dunno about 10-20 mobs, though the 5-7 usually only depletes about a third of my mana, assuming I don't use all my cooldowns/trinkets.

And then the healadin is saving his butt, repeatedly flipping a Flash of Light/Cleanse coin and casting whichever comes up.

Did my eyes just deceive me? Has hell frozen over? Has CapJack, champion of all things tankadin just say he favored holy over prot?

I think the world as we know it just ended.

I expected Dilbrt to say something like that..but not Jack...nooo.

whew! You had me scared there for a minute.

You forgot to say though, "the prot pally tanks it anyway...and succeeds. Take that, nerd!"

I'd rather be the girl in the sexy nurse outfit dancing on that table over there. :)

Magad, that didn't come out at all the way I thought it would.

I swear, I am living proof of success in mediocrity. I haven't even cleared Kara, and I'm "Champion of all things Tankadin"

Maul's my hero, you should all worship him... he has at least completed a raid.
