Ok I feel a little embarrassed asking this considering I've raided KZ, ZA, Gruuls, and DLK but I need some help with stopcasting. I embarrassingly never took stopcasting to heart and so I never really even looked into how it works. Now, after returning from a WoW healing hiatus, I'd like to learn how stopcasting works properly.

Now I've tried to do some research on it but so far through my forum digging (and not just on here) all I can find are debates on whether or not stopcasting is still good anymore. From what I read, it is clear stopcasting was valuable in 2.2 and before but now it is somewhat debatable. So question number one: Is stopcasting still valuable in 2.3?

If the answer to that question is no just stop reading and hit the reply button :] Now if the answer is yes lets move on to: How exactly do you macro/use stopcasting. I understand the theory behind casting a Gheal and then using inner focus to interrupt it, keeping you Oo5SR. However, I don't get how stopcasting plays into this mix, or on its own. So question 2 is: What *exactly* should a stopcast macro be line for line, and (sorry its a two part question) how should you use it situationally?

Short answer: Yes. Yes it is. The new 30% meditation benefit is awesome, but getting out of the 5-second rule still doubles your mana regeneration rate.

Here's your macro for stopcasting:

/stopcasting
/cast Greater Heal 1

Naturally, you should have one for your max rank GH too.

Alternately, you can stop your cast by strafing slightly. Some people stop their cast by jumping: this isn't a good habit to get into, since you can't start a new cast until you land.

You will want to download the Quartz addon, which will show you more precisely when you can effectively interrupt your heals--without it, you will more often have lag mess up your timing.

Cancel-casting is most effective when single-target healing. You start casting GH1 on your tank, but unless his health takes a dip while you're casting, you cancel before it triggers. If your clearcasting triggers, start cancel-casting your max rank GH instead, and when you finally finish casting it, hit inner focus and continue cancel-casting max-rank GH, then go back to cancel-casting GH1 once you cast the second max GH.

To maximize this tachnique, you'll want to cast your Renews and Prayers of Mending right after your GH1s go off.

Ok well the macro I recieved from a guildie is:

#showtooltip Greater Heal(Rank 2)
/stopcasting
/cast Greater Heal(Rank 2)

But they look pretty similar. From reading up on eliteistjerks forums they were saying its best to spam GH2 but I think they were talking about priests in t5 gear. Is GH1 best for sub t4 priests?

So let me just go over this again here. Stopcasting is what you are referring to as "cancel casting" right? So, lets say I'm on the MT. I start casting GH2macro and by the time its ready to go off, if the tank doesn't need that heal, I hit that same macro again? Since the spell never completed I'm still Oo5SR right?

The showtooltip bit means when you mouseover the macro button, it shows you the tooltip from the spell--useful if you're a clicker. :)

The difference between GH1 and GH2 is a matter of power and efficiency. If the EJs have said GH2 is some kind of sweet spot for the tradeoff between the two, I'd trust them.

And yes, cancel-casting and stopcasting are synonymous. So long as you don't spend mana, you stay outside the five-second rule, so a combination of cancel-casting, clearcasting procs and Inner Focus will let you regen at your full rate for long periods of time.

Great thanks a lot for the help. Gave it all a run through two heroics tonight and it seemed to work pretty well.
