I've been fiddling with a trap macro for a while now. I didn't know if I'd ever get something useful. But I ran a few instances with this one, and it made life so very much easier.

#showtooltip
/focus [button:2] target
/cast [button:1, nomodifier] Freezing Trap
/cast [button:1, modifier:alt, target=focus] Distracting Shot

Set your focus on your trap mob beforehand, then you never have to switch targets. I bound it to an extra mouse button, and I barely noticed a hiccup in my shot rotation. My dps was interrupted most just by repositioning. The Distracting Shot is particularly helpful. You can target skull at the beginning and still peel your mob away, then shoot it occasionally while frozen to maintain a decent threat edge.

I haven't broken my own trap or lost aggro to a healer since I started using this :).

I can't be 100% but your trapped mob doesn't gain and aggro while trapped until broken. You don't need to worry to much about using a distracting shot on a trapped mob.

*Edit* Reason for belief on this is I kept 1 mob chain trapped through a series of bad adds in a group due to fears. (A total of about 10 mobs) right before the boss in SV. I never lost aggro to the healer and s/he was standing right next to that mob healing the whole fight. This was before patch 2.3.2 where you could chain trap 2 mobs again.

I only had the mob break lose 1 time early and I still had aggro. (7th mob out of 10 down around the 3rd or 4th group of adds) I just scattered the mob and then retrapped it as soon as the CD was up. (this actually got me an invite to a guild and several invites to places like Kara and Gruuls.)

True (I think) but every once in a while, the healer will get a big heal off in the interval between breaking one trap and coming to the next, then your mob will forget all about you. I don't know if a few Distractings will prevent this, but it couldn't hurt.

I just personally feel it is a waste of valuable mana. (though if you have the extra mana to pull it off it really can't help)

Still Rateup on a nicely planned macro that could be of some assistance to people with this problem.

My main problem is I never seem to get any love when popping off a distracting shot anymore.

I thought a frozen target didn't have ANY aggro or threat change. Nothing else can affect it can it? Damage would break the trap, maybe heals, AOE use? I've never seen the threat change at all on a frozen target.

Now I am going to have to watch more closely. When I tap a target out for a trap I hit it hard or use silencing shot (casters). They always have come after me when coming unfrozen. The only time they don't is when I send my pet to break the trap with a growl or the tank decides to engage them. I don't recall any time the trap has broken and they've gone after a mage or a priest.

Has anyone?

As I said I don't think anything will modify a frozen mobs aggro. Kinda like distracting shot on a sheep. Don't think it does anything.

I simply use Distracting Shot as a puller, and I never loose aggro either.
