OK here is my issue. I'm a lvl 61 Tankadin and have rocked the instances 15-60. I've loved being able to tell the CC'ers "meh don't bother" and just going to town. Then I hit Outland and boy was I shocked. My main is a lvl70 Feral druid so I've done the tanking thing before, but maybe it was just too long ago for me to remember. I am finding that I am taking ALOT of damage so far in Ramparts. Most of all of my gear has made the change over from Azeroth > Outland gear so I don't think that I am behind on the curve. And I belive my talents are in-line to where they need to be. But yet I get beat down alot. I'm just wondering what I can do to feel like a tank again. Is it that CC is needed in BC and I'm trying to be a show off by going without it? Is it a high ratio of caster mobs in ramps? (seems like alot to me) Is it my gear? I never have a problem keeping hate. just living through the damage.

I don't think its the healers either as I have grouped with a buddy of mine for awhile in instances and he never had a problem keeping me up before. But now I will get /w from him asking if my tanking gear is on.

My HP seems kind of low to me. but I just thought that was cause I was used to Bear form's HP levels. I'm really just looking for advice on how I can get better, be it gear, or a nice solid "L2P Noob" smack in the face. I love tanking, just finding it alot tougher now.

Here is my armory link. Open to any and all criticism. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Spinebreaker&n=Windstrong

Edit: Oops I logged in healing gear. Relogged in tank gear.

Im gonna be honest, i looked at 3 of your pcs of gear. The problem is that you are using caster gear, that may workfor 1-60 but its not gonna work in outland. You need to drop all of the spell power, intellect and Mp5 Gear, and start to pick up Stamina, Strength, Defense Rating.

Things got a ton easier for me when I started collecting tank gear along with +defense gear. ;-)

I think armory is still showing your healing set. I hope it is othewise you at the very least need to invest in some rings.

You don't need, at 60, to just jump right into the +def stuff. I tanked pretty well in a lot of the +spell dmg stuff through probably 67-68. Now, that said, you're going to run into several different types of spell dmg gear. Some of it has more stam than others - use that for tanking. Feel free to have a set with more int/MP5/whatever for soloing. It's nice to have.

As you run more instances and get drops the gear will come. And besides, while you CAN often run instances without CC in Outland because you're a pally? It doesn't mean that it always works well. Using CC doesn't mean you're failing as a paladin tank. I means you're being smart and taking care of yourself, your healer and your group.

While I agree, I don't remember there being a whole lot of +def stuff (I mean aside from the stuff that ONLY had +def) between 60 and 65 or so. The other thing is that you (well me at least) don't really get any good early +spell dmg options for weaponry. I think the first really good one I had came from Slave Pens. So just going with stacking +def may get them into an issue where, yeah, they can handle the beating of a ton of mobs... if they can actually keep the frelling mobs on them.

Couple of problems you'll run into in Ramps:

(1) Some of the mobs use Mortal Strike. If you're fighting a group of mobs ... you don't want 50% reduced healing. CC these.
(2) There are a lot of casters, which ignore armor. Either CC these are have your group burn them down ASAP.

At a "fresh" 61, not having tanked Ramps and started to build up gear, don't be afraid of CC. Mobs in Outlands DO hit a lot harder than most of the instances you've been running.

Also, start paying more attention to kill order. Kill the most dangerous, squishiest mobs first. In packs with dogs and casters, kill the dogs first, then focus on the casters. Keep the MS mob CCed. You'll be amazed what a difference it makes.

I found the learning curve from old content to ramps is steaper than ramps to bloodfurnace, so once your by this challenge it'll go smoother. Esspecialy the final boss... good group of Lv60-61 will most likely wipe to his Drake.

Im not sure which armor your in, if it's your healer gear then... ok. But if that's your tank gear good luck lol. Stam, Stam & more Stam that's what you need to focus on. For smoother runs get better gear, aim for 7-8K HPs buffed with about 100ish +spell maybe. Carry a few change-ups (more stam/more spell/ect...) and adjust as you go along. If your healers strugling then gear all +stam and tell DPS to becarefull, if healings good & DPS keeps drawing agro.. swap in some +spell and drop more mana per fight.

Talents look great so far.

I had a similar problem around Ramparts and Slave pens. The trick is to start wearing as much +Def gear as humanly possible. That will slove the problem.

i'm geared about same hp and armor as you and a lvl under you since your now 62 but i've been doing ok in there tanked it last night on my slownet (28.8kbps). true it wasnt pretty but no one died till drake then it was only the ret pally he kept getting agro think he moved to drake before guy died. or maybe i was just too drunkand messing up on the drake lol. when he starts the fire i move from side to side dont know if it's how it's done or not.

as for ms and casters i mark the casters skull and moon and have peeps burn them down fast i dont use cc in there so far.
