ret to 60 then prot?Follow

#1 Jan 14 2008 at 7:03 AM Rating: Decent
Being a complete novice, I'm wondering if it is a good idea to spec ret until 60 or so then re-spec prot? Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance, and sorry if this has been covered before. I just don't have time to scour all the previous posts.

Yes, if that's what you want to do it's a good idea. With the changes made to leveling XP and quests for the mid levels I would venture to say that stamping out quests as Ret is the fastest way to go. Once you hit 60, your decision. Ret will be less and less desirable from a group standpoint, and if not geared/played properly, will plateau dramatically.

Thanks. I realize this has probably been answered in previous posts, but I don't have a lot of time to search through them. I appreciate you humoring me. Thanks.

I'm leveling a paladin myself, and I swapped to Prot at 40ish. It was the best decision I ever made. Leveling speed increased dramtically, and being able to take on 7 mobs (yes, 7) at once is amazing. Just stay away from those darn casters...

Just ventured into Outland yesterday and was thinking that perhaps my tactics would have to change since they hit harder, etc. out there. Not the case. In lvl 50ish Azeroth gear I was still able to take on 4-5 of the fel orcs outside of Thrallmar with no real problems.

The deciding point for me to switch at 40 was until then it's nice to have the run speed increase you get from Pursuit of Justice in the Ret tree. At 40 you get your mount, so that was less of an issue.

For solo questing.. Ret to Lv70, then what ever you want. Ret will be fastest solo (takes alot of luck & prep as prot to get 4+ mobs on you.. also, Outlands hit harder, 7 outland mobs green to you will likely kill you very fast).

If you like grouping then either Holy or Prot will work. If you get alot of +spell damage gear to hold on the side then Holy will kill very quickly soloing, but not as fast as Ret. Prot = slow solo, but still good enough to level decently. I wouldn't take Prot unless your planning to tank dungeon runs thou IMO (this coming from a lv66 prot pally).

I seem to have found tanks harder to get than healers on my server, this is why I choose Prot over Holy. I also enjoy dungeon running alot more than solo questing, so that was my direction. Yours could be different & it all depends on how you feel would be the most exciting for your gameplay.

Hope that helps.

If you intend on switching from ret to prot, any time after about level 40 is fine.
