I've just started playing a Warlock (affliction), at level 35 at the moment, realizing that I don't have a clue about pet strengths and weaknesses. (I've read a lot of info, but none is spot on). I have a few questions regarding this.

1. Which pet is best for standard solo questing? I'm kind of stuck with the voidwalker as he functions as a tank, I didn't take to the imp too much because I don't like getting hit by mobs, and I can't really see the point in using the succibus (although most warlocks post level 20 seems to run around with theirs). What pet do you suggest I should use? (needs mentioning that I haven't been bothered to get my dog yet, and probably won't before I'm level 40, since I hate running).

2. What pet is best for grinding at 70 when your gear is getting good? At some point I must farm motes for cloth/tailoring etc.

3. At Goldshire I notice I can buy abilities for my imp and my voidwalker, but what about my succubus? Or my dog for that matter if/when I get it.

Thanks in advance for helping me.

1. VW for your level imo.

2. I am happy grinding without any pet now :p Sac VW ftw.

3. Check SW.

It really depends on your playstyle. If you don't like getting hit, and are Drain-Hunting, stick with big blue.

If your drain tanking and getting hit anyway, use Succy or Felpup for more DD.

The Felpup is great if your in an area where your worried about PvP. He can help you spot those rouges/cat druids, and they can't get the jump on you. Also chew down casters pretty quick. Succys nice though too, since you can seduce nuke.

If you stick with Affliction, once you get Dark Pact, you'll probably want to stick with the imp since he regens his mana the fastest.

It's all up to playstyle though really. I use different pets in different situations.

I don't really know what my playstyle is called. I usually fight this way:

1. I send my voidwalker at 1-3 enemies.
2. I put stuff on the main target, give him a couple of shadow bolts, drain him to death.
3. If two or more enemies, do the same to whoever the void is now targetting so that he won't lose aggro.
4. If there's three enemies, I either fear or banish the third target if the void struggles, otherwise the same.

Guess I'm gonna stick with my void :)

Thanks to both of the above anyway.

Sounds like Drain Hunting, very viable strat, and yes, you need to keep the VW for that.
