Current Spec:http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Drak%27thul&n=Raisse

I was wondering if you guys could suggest comments on the best spells/spell rotations to use on both trash and bosses in a raid setting for my current spec, especially how to work in (if I should work in) arcane blast. As it stands my guild will be starting SSC/Eye soon (recently downed Mag and can 1 shot gruul).

I'm also open to suggestions on changes to spec and whatnot. I leveled as full fire, respecced a while ago to arcane for the utility and general fun =P

Thanks for your comments :D

Usually people respec to the 40/21/0 (in your case, 41/20/0) to grab some extra spell power for more damage. Even with 40 points into arcane, I still consider it more of a support tree. So in raids, you should mostly be using your fire spells. As for the rotation, go with the usual. 5 scorches for the damage buff, followed by 7-8 fireballs, and another scorch to keep the buff up. Rinse and repeat.

I think you were hoping for more of a rotation that incorporated some arcane spells, but from what I've heard, arcane isn't comparable to fire without two pieces of T5 gear. I haven't done too much in the way of arcane (I've used AB once since I learned it) but I think the usual rotation is AB, AM, AM, Scorch or something like that.

Thanks for the reply.

I've got the 1 point in Arcane cause slow is a pretty useful spell in a variety of cases and it helps making the spec useful outside of just raids.

As it stands I usually do mainly cast scorches for the debuff, fireballs until clearcasting and missiles for clearcasting procs. If I'm lucky, I just might be able to get my 2 piece in the semi-near future and then can play with how AB works =P

I figured that I should tell you that the 2-piece T5 no longer gives a DPS increase over 10/48/3 or the current top 0/47/11 (+3 -- many do 2/48/11) because of the nerf to the Mystical Skyfire Diamond and lightning capacitor.

There are a few problems with your gear:

If you plan on using fire as your main spells you need about 100 more spellhit rating (I hope that the PvP gear isn't your PvE gear, if not can you please update your armory for this).

I am aware that my spell hit is quite lacking and have been trying to rectify this. The problem/reason I haven't been able to get decent spell hit stuff is because when that type of gear drops there's always someone in the raid that would be getting a *major* upgrade as opposed to a minor upgrade or PVE sidegrade so I end up passing to them. Fortunately, enough of our people are getting geared now that those items are actually available for me to roll on now, so I am able to roll. And finally, I'm having a difficult time finding a good PVE chest piece, can you suggest one? and no, I don't plan on picking up tailoring and I do know that spellfire is awesome.

Edit: For some reason my gloves didn't update, I have a pair of gloves from Kara with spell hit, but I do use the Arena Robe for both PVP and PVE as I have nothing else comparable yet.

Slight off topic, had my first few raids with my mage this weekend. Anyone else stolen the haste buff from the ZA flamecasters? I was casting AM with it up (because everything else got lost in the GCD) and it was crazy :)

Thinking of going fire on my mage (Hydross coming soon) so I'm off to compare my stats to see which cookie cutter build I should use.

Can you post your stats to see if you have enough dmg to overcome the heavy arcane/fire build instead of 10/48/3 or 2/48/11

I'm currently in my frost gear (and spec), so this is from reading off my character sheet and then adding and subtracting based on the gear I'd change for fire.

Unbuffed stats:

725 +damage (765 if I enchant my weapon)
267 crit rating (plus 0.65% extra from int gained)
Hit capped

Edit: remembered that I trade some hit for damage, so altering stats slightly and will recheck my crit too. Those are rough figures, but hopefully enough to go on.

Well i am 40/21 right now but i don't know if i can help much.
me and my guild went SSC last week and i found out that (with a s-priest in the group) using 2xArcane Blast-4xScorch (or 2xFireball) will keep you up both in mana efficiency and in dmg meters if that's your plan.make two warlocks keep a curse of elements and shadow on the target and enjoy the +10% dmg.

and btw i stole the buff too and i can say this----->chain pyro FTW!!!!i had 1,54 casting for pyro!!!!you should also see me running around to avoid aggro!!:P:P that was really fun!!!

I would, but I like to ***** about my guild here occasionally (or certain members) and I know some people from my realm post here so would rather keep my anonymity (I'm sure no-one would care, but I'm allowed to be paranoid :P).

I tried 10/48/3 yesterday on the advice of a guildie so I'll post my stats with that spec and the gear I was wearing, unbuffed:

Int - 440
+Dmg - 730
Hit - 158
Crit - 16.1% (25.1% fire)

Or (hopefully working) link to a sandbox of my character:
My Mage

I found that my damage was about the same as with frost spec, but that may be due to my lack of experience with the spec and also they were fairly technical fights with me needed to coordinate people. I'll be keeping this spec (or 40/21) for the next week or so and see if it gets better with practice and when I'm not raid leading.

Edit to add a noob question:
Why is the lower half of fire so much better than the lower half of frost?

If there was a second frost mage to keep up winter's chill would a 40/0/21 spec work or do you think too much would be lost from the WE?

Feel free to laugh me off the forum :) as they say, curiosity (or ignorance) killed the cat.
