If we're going off-topic, my Dad came up to me while me and my Mom were having lunch, and said "Hey, I saw Alien vs. Predator" (I'd already seen it) after me and my dad spent a bit discussing how we liked it, my mom asked "So...Alien...is that like an outer-space alien or like an alien from Russia?"
Dad says "it's the alien from that Sigourney Weaver movie that came out a while ago." Mom: "Oh, wasn't that a good alien?" (brief pause while me and my Dad are crackin up) "Oh wait...it killed everyone on the ship didn't it?" At this point I fell out of my chair...

dont tell me she was thinking of ET. that would be hilarious.

When asked if I could tank an instance, the druid (which is why I was confused he didn't know this, granted he didn't tank...) asked if I were crit immune. I told him I was about 10 def rating off, but my 42 resilience made up for it and some, the druid told me resilience doesn't count towards crit immunity, so I read him exactly what resilience says it does, and he didn't respond.

Same thing, but this time some rogue told me that not only did resilience not matter, but I couldn't tank any heroics (though I've done it loads of times with 18.1K armor, 13.5K health, 30.2% dodge, and crit immune ofc not the best, but good enough) because of the missing 10 def rating. He kept telling the group there's no way I could do it because I'd get crit all the time. Obviously, he doesn't understand that when ppl talk of crit immune, they are talking about bosses since normal mobs<lvl73 have a lower crit chance (not by much, but still, there's a difference).

Though it ended up making me even more mad and made me laugh when we tried it, and didn't make it past the first pull. It was heroic SP, we had 1 CC (the rogue) then the rest was melee dps, and a pally healer. So there's no real chance of doing it anyway. But on with the story, the enhance shammy pulls the group of three, so no sap from the rogue, then I have to try to tank all three. I lasted about 3 secs, in those 3 secs the pally healer and somehow managed to zone out of SP while they rest of us died. So in other words, he ran without even trying to heal me. When we've all come back, the shammy looks at my gear, and since I had all blues but 4 (2 greens, 2 epics) he says that I can't tank because my gear sucks.

I hate it when ppl don't understand druid tanking gear, for example the belt I was wearing was Manimal's cinch (sorry, to lazy to link), which is green, but awesome (picked up Tree-mender's belt later on in a Heroic ramps that I tanked...)

Anyway, there are a couple of long stories for you all :)

Now, what is the most stupid thing said to you in-game?

A couple days ago, someone in AV repeatedly in all caps said;

/bg ALL YOUR GO ALL ALL

EditNotes: Just to clarify, this was maybe 2-3 minutes into the battle, we had already killed Galv and were fighting over IB and FW gy's, not even close to ready for Drek. Sure, I've heard ALL IN called for Drek..

As for Dodge
Quote:
Attacking a mob from behind can remove only parry and block from the table since direction doesn't affect dodge. Also note that there is a 0.5 yard penalty in which direction doesn't count. ref: http://www.wowwiki.com/Attack_table

Your target will not be able to dodge if they are afflicted by "stun" (not incapacitation). ref: http://www.wowwiki.com/Formulas:Dodge

I support the idea that players cannot dodge from behind, though I have not tested this since 2.3 and WoWWiki no longer has the Player versus Player section for the Attack Table & Defense Skill where it stated players being unable to Dodge attacks from behind. My guess is someone forgot to retain that information when they rewrote those pages and likely it will reappear soon enough. So on that note: ALL YOUR GO ALL ALL!

I just love the whispers I get while tanking in Karazhan from random people asking if I want to come and tank slave pens!

Surely if you do a /who 70 druid it isn't that hard to notice that someone is in Karazhan!

I was in LFG for deadmines on one of my alts, saying "LFM VC, need X and Y" and I get someone whispering me saying "What's VC?" I told him it was a level 20ish instance called deadmines (he was 50+) and he goes "Noob that's DM." "Uh...DM is dire maul, VC is VanCleef, the boss of deadmines so people call deadmines VC." "They dont name dungeons after bosses deadmines is DM idiot..."

Then me and my friend on two tauren druids we're levelling together had just hit the 20's and we think it'd be fun to stealth run through deadmines a few times. So I set up a macro "LF3M for stealth run through VC, rogues and 20+ druids only, PST for more info". I kept getting level 60-70 rogues and druids whispering me asking what VC was and saying they wanted to go. (On most of my toons I dont like getting ran through instances, particularly if I have a static partner).

As a druid this just happened recently. Was in a SV group I was a kitty, another druid was the healer. During a battle I then battle rezzed the healer when we got a 2nd group linked in since someone got feared. 10 mins later we were at a boss fight when the healer again got killed because they were in the lightning storm and got shot down quickly and then the druid was yelling at me for not battle rezzing.... um.... 20 minute cool down.... um aren't you a druid..... don't you know your skills.... He then cooled down and realized and it was all good from there.

As a priest.... being asked for water... um I am not a watercooler I'm a face melter....

Sorry For all the good druids here, but this was said to me by a druid. We were running WC. Party is as such: Me (18 Rogue), 19 Druid, 20 Druid (1), 17 Hunter. I had no complaints about Druid2. But Druid1 was an idiot.

Druid1:"Dude, what are you diong? Your Getting too much aggro. I cant keep up on healing you."
Me:"Im getting aggro to keep the mobs off you that you keep pulling. if you let me sap and the hunter pull, we wont have as hard a time."
Me:"Why dont you tank and the other druid heal?"
Druid1:"Im healing"
Druid2:"I dont know how to tank well"
Me:"Ok then. Im a rogue not a warrior or Paladin. I wear leather. Im tanking WC at 18. Im keeping aggro off of you."

And before I get a flame about lvl 20 newbies, This was not the guys first toon. In fact he had a 70 Lock and 57 Mage.

This is a Hunter moment, I have a 70 hunter and a lvl 40 Druid, but we're talking about dimwits here so.....

I'm running through SM Lib as my 40 Druid and theres a 38 Hunter, and a lvl 30 Shaman in the group as well pulling aggro like crazy between the 2 of them. We had a 40 Pally tank who could handle herself against 4-5 mobs at a time with me as healer. Shammy gets almost dead every time....

Me: If you (shammy) pull aggro from/ before the tank again i'm not gonna keep wasting my mana on you and you'll die.
Shammy: Ok sorry, I keep forgetting i'm a little low for this place, i'll be more careful.
Hunter: Why are you worried about it? my pet can tank fine and he's been taking 2-3 mobs at a time up til now so leave him alone.
Me: Your pets still alive because I know he's taking damage and have been throwing HoT's his way, please take your pet off aggressive, turn growl off and use FD if you manage to pull agggro away from our tank.
Hunter: My pet isn't on aggressive, I haven't been taking aggro from the tank, my pet has and DON"T TELL ME HOW TO PLAY MY CLASS, i didn't ask for help with it so don't give me advice.
Me: I have a lvl 70 hunter, I know what I see, don't make me say it again... please, I don't us to wipe 100 times because of an ego problem.
Hunter: I have a lvl 70 hunter too, don't tell me how to play...
Me: What's your shot rotation, are you using FD and if you want your pet to tank, you keep him healed.
Hunter: Whats a shot rotation? I don't know what FD does so I don't do it and I can't heal my pet, you're the healer, do your job....

I said in party chat that unless he was gone we weren't going to keep going....

TBH - deadmines have always been called DM, and dire maul for - yes, dire maul or DM + direction.

The VC thing is a new abbrevation (spelling?) for deadmines, and thus some high levels don't know it. The reason for not shortening deadmines with VC is (I guess) to avoid mixing it up with WC (wailing caverns).

just started a druid as an alt, i get level 10 and finish bear form quest. 15 min later i get a /w from someone standing right next to me asking if i can take kara for him/group. i say "lol im only level 10" he responds "dont be a douche, tank for us" ....arnt level 70's supposed to be "Knowledgeable" about the game? anyway i respond "look at me" he does...and just hearths away to shatt without another word.

Krq, I've only ever heard it called VC and I've been playing for a year and a half. So while it may be relatively "new" most people know about deadmines, and any alts/lowb friends/etc. should have heard the abbreviation. While DM may also be a correct abbreviation (although I consider it not), calling me an idiot for calling it VC is dimwitted.

duh, sorry - but where did I call you an idiot? I just explained why they all ask you - the only dimwitted about your post was the dude who called noob - but that really was dimwitted.

Think what you want, but fact is that back in vanilla wow days, it was called DM.

I've always heard of Deadmines as "VC" -- and it has always annoyed me. People shouldn't be too confused, though... if someone says "LFG - DM" then it's probably Deadmines. No one is looking for Dire Maul anymore (or if they are for their mount quest thing, then they'll probably say "for my mount quest thing")

My most dimwitted thing said to me was on my mage.
Someone asked for a portal to Darnassus, so I sent him a tell: "1g."
He invited me into his group... there's a full group of 5 of us now. I go to stand next to him and wait patiently for him to tip me. A moment or two goes by. I group-ask "Ready?" and the guy says "yeah, just a sec, I need to find that mage." I said "who?" and he said "The mage who said they'd portal me, I don't know where they went!"

I made the portal for free.

I'm not even sure what he was thinking... like, if he meant ANOTHER mage, where would he have put them in the group for the portal?

Wow...I just had a good one. I was taking the boat from Auberdine to Wetlands with my Draenei pally (who's level 53 and wearing plate and a shield.) This huntard (and believe me, I inspected him and his gear was almost all +STR, some of it was even stuff with no stats, just extra armor...turtle scale bracers, I think) asks me "u pick locks"?

And there's me, sitting there on my warhorse (cause he'd said "hey" so I was waiting to see what he wanted...thought he was going to ask for a buff, and I've begun making it strict policy not to buff people who have gear completely wrong for their class), a draenei, who can't even be a class that can pick locks, completely dumbfounded.

My response wasn't very clever (or mean), I simply told him "No...I'm a pally" because well...I'm never mean to people, really.

Still...what on earth? I mean, sure I suppose I might have been a blacksmith, who could use a skeleton key to open a lock...but pick locks? Heck, even if I'd been a blacksmith, I'd have probably told him no, just for his gear.

Here's his armory. Not sure what's up with that spec.

The thing was he (the guy in-game) called me an idiot/noob for calling deadmines 'VC'. And yes I came in vanilla, though late vanilla (I came when tier 2 or 2.5 was the top, not exactly sure what patch), and my friend who'd been playing for a while referred to it as VC, not remotely as dm. Honestly if I saw someone in LFG for "dm" and they didn't specify a level, I'd assume dire maul.

if they didnt know that deadmines is called VC to avoid confusion with dire maul then i recon we know who the ideot/noob is...

"VC" must be an alliance only thing, DM has always been Dire Maul.
Granted you don't see it much any more but I've never seen VC advertised in LFG.

1. have you ever heard of spore...
2. if so, how long have you been waiting...

I dont know how often this happens to you druid tanks but i have friends that ask me to fill the tank slot in pugs. And you know I teleport in elf form and one of the puggers says i hope your not tanking with 6000 health or however much health i have in humanoid form. Um hello thats why druids tank in bear form. Or at least good druid tanks. At lvl 70 you should sorta have an idea how other classes work.
#50 Jan 19 2008 at 2:39 PM Rating: Default
wait how do you have 6k hp in humanoid form at 70? that's almost base hp like my 68 druid has like 8k hp in humanoid form :S
