Let me know how it works out for you. I'm still a little hesitant to give up Clearcasting and have to use mana gems instead of chain eating flame caps.

I just got the serpent coil braid this week, so it is amazing with the new gems.

The dps is a decent increase, although it depends on when you use it. I forgot to use it tonight on our first Vashj downing, lol.

Where do you dump the points in the frost talents?
The way I sees it:
3/3 Elemental Precision
2/2 Frost Warding
2/2 Imp FN
3/3 Permafrost
1/1 Icy Veins

To me, it just seems like some of those points are a waste and they would be put to much better use in the Arcane tree w/ Clearcasting. Of course, when WotLK comes out, we can play with a build that goes deep fire and includes Clearcasting AND Icy Veins. Hmmmmmmmm.......interesting......the theorycrafters are going to have a joy-gasm.

Then you have to think of what cool 51-pt talent they will give us... /drool

Ah yes, that. True enough. If I don't try it before, I could certainly see trying it out after getting that.

I'll probably macro it to my fireball just like I did combustion(so long as it doesn't pop the GCD). I'm horrible about remembering to use trinket cooldowns/Combustion, and I saw a good increase in damage when I added it to a macro.

There are so many possibilities...but if a phoenix isn't involved, I probably won't be as happy as I could be. Smiley: tongue

Just remember to use it when a boss is >20% hp so that you get more dps out with molten fury.

True enough, but using it 2-3 times a boss fight will probably give me more benefit than forgetting about it til Molten Fury time like I used to always do with Combustion.

I used the 2/48/11 for a while, but went back to 10/47/3 +1, took the clearcast and extra mana from serpent coil braid, and added fire blast into my rotation. I havent ran hard numbers on it but i dont have mana problems even with that spell in rotation(especially with the new gems) and it seems to me the added dps from putting instant cast in rotation outweighs the extra fireball or two every 3 minutes from icy veins. When on fights with a lot of aoe (tidewalker, hydross, etc) just leave out the fire blast and still in good shape.
At the moment I am staying 2pc bonus arcane (just until a'lar is smooth enough that i dont have to respec out of fire and back in every week) but cannot wait to get back to fire. As of right now when i go back I am planning on back to 10/47/3+1 again but if anyone has any thoughts why the IV would be better please let me know. The only thing I am wondering is if i can hold enough mana to get IV and keep the instant cast in rotation.

from what I have read fireblast does not help rotations only hurts it unless you are in a fight with constant movement and you don't have time to cast scorches.

I've been speccing 2/48/11 for the last few weeks for pve, and I must say, it's like having another trinket, an awesome trinket. Icy veins + Icon + Combustion makes for a lot of damage. And until the new patch, where bloodlust isn't stackable with IV anymore, the 1.92 second fireballs are just too good to skip.
Especially when the target is below 20% hp.

I'm the raid leader though, so I tend to make sure I'm in a group with a shadow priest. With just a SP and no mana tide I do fine on gems in kara on the harder fights. With gems and pots I do fine on everything else (been doing gruul, lurker, magtheridon and ZA).

I actually like IV most for hard trash pulls (eagle boss trash in ZA comes to mind) where things just have to die ASAP.

The only thing I miss about the clearcasting is being able to dump a high mana cost spell every now and then for free, but I manage without.

Also, this site: http://www.manoutoftime.org/staticpages/index.php/tcom says that by speccing 2/48/11 over 10/48/3, my dps increases by about 20, averaged.

Short answer: if your mana pool can take it, spec IV.

Hope that made sense, I don't have coffee :<.
