Changes with auto shot? (not "how do i fix my macro?!?")Follow

Before I begin, this isn't a "how do I fix my shot rotation macro?" post...

After yesterday's patch, I updated my normal shot rotation macro that I was playing around with to use the new "!" notation before auto shot.

**Let's not make this a "L2P and shot rotation macros are for n00bs" thread, please... lol.**

The macro continued to work well enough, although I noticed that there was something different with the timing of auto shot... specifically that it seemed to go off "on top" of my other shots at times. I chalked it up to the whole auto shot toggle change or lag issues, etc.

However, after looking through the forums on tkasomething, as well as the WoW forums, there seems to be some noticeable difference in the auto shot mechanic besides the toggle change.

Anyone here notice anything different?

EDIT:
There seems to be another related thread about this on tkasomething... here's the link.

BM hunters might not notice it. But for the MM and SV shot rotations, it's very noticable, and doesn't help our DPS at all. It happens whether you use a macro, or manually do the shot rotation. Although, manually, you don't have to wait for a second auto shot to continue. I guess it's time I got an autoshot timer. Macros will not work for us as it is.

Not sure if this was intended by Blizzard or not.

I've had the same thing happen.

Oh wow. Just wow. Testing tonight for sure. There's also a post on the EJ forums in the hunter castsequence thread. No conclusive evidence as of yet, but it appears we can say that arcane at least is unclipped from auto.

I do a manual 1:1 rotation.. Normally, I miss a shot now and then from lag or trying to hit KC or mend pet or an arcane, but something's changed lately. I can't seem to mess up without deliberately trying.

The auto-shot seems to fire much sooner after the SS than it used to, and it also seems to still fire if I click SS slightly too early. I should get a shot timer to check this..

I can't go on right now, Someone try this macro out on Dr. Boom and tell me what happens.

/cast !Auto shot
/cast [target=pettarget, exists] Kill Command
/cast Steady shot
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

also this one

/castsequence reset=3/target Steady Shot, !Auto Shot
/castrandom Arcane Shot, Multi-Shot
/cast [target=pettarget, exists] Kill Command
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

Well... I wouldn't say that I performed a thorough scientific investigation, but some testing on Dr. Boom revealed the following:

Using the MM/SV no-CC macro in Aethien's guide, my DPS was roughly 450:
/script UIErrorsFrame:Hide()
/castsequence reset=3 Steady Shot, Arcane Shot, Auto Shot, Steady Shot, Auto Shot,
/cast [exists,target=pettarget] Kill Command
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear(); UIErrorsFrame:Show()

Using the first macro in the post by Xsarus, my DPS was roughly 625:
/cast !Auto shot
/cast [target=pettarget, exists] Kill Command
/cast Steady shot
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

And using the second macro in the post by Xsarus, my DPS was roughly 550:
/castsequence reset=3/target Steady Shot, !Auto Shot
/castrandom Arcane Shot, Multi-Shot
/cast [target=pettarget, exists] Kill Command
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

Again, my tests were by no means scientific, but me likes the numbers on the second macro above. I'm curious what DPS changes (if any) others will find...

referencing the EJ forum It seems you can't clobber the autoshot anymore meaning you can just chain steadies.

so with the 2nd macro there I was at 633 as the cookie cutter BM/MM. With a 5/43/13 build I had 750 dps. I don't think that's enough. I'm going to try some of the other macros and see how it goes. My test is going to be the bear boss in ZA. With my BM/MM spec I do about 1K dps. So we'll see if I can do enough more damage to offset the loss of my pet.

I'm also going to try it in arena this week, and see if silencing shot, scatter, and the wingclip stuff will be better or worse then TBW.

I've actually noticed this too. I don't use macros, finding it easier to just rely on visual/auditory cues. (For some weird reason, even a shot timer screws me up more.) Yes, every so often I'd ***** up and clip my shots.

Anyways, today I thought I had clipped a shot, but it ended up that the autoshot went off after all. Intersted, I tried to "purposely" clip my shots. An autoshot went off each time. (Except when I clipped it immedieatly) It could have been lag on my part that this works, or it could be that the mechanics have been changed.

Either way, I'm happy. ^^

Weird...

I did notice that my autoshot cast bar was acting weird, as it would just stop short about 4/5 of the way along. I ended up turning it off, figuring it was something to do with the patch breaking the mod.

Then, as someone on TKA said, I noticed that my guy would lower his weapon between some shots, which was odd. I forgot about it after as I was concentrating quite hard (new boss).

So... hopefully we can get an official line. And then some nice polite brainy person will come along, chew some numbers, and tell me exactly what I should do with the BM macro I just made recently. :)

Now, I just wish I had a mob around that just stood there, didn't do AoE damage and so on, so I could test my dps with my pet actually in the fight.

Can you use the unkillable mobs in the Blasted Lands for that? Not sure if the mob's low level would skew the results (due to % hit chance, or whatever), and obviously the actual numbers would be off, but would it work purely for comparing the macros?

Apparently, someone's been able to use this new auto shot "bug" to pull off instant aimed shots and multiple multi-shots... take a look (post #232).

There's even a video clip in that thread showing it work... although, when watching it, I can't really see what's going on.

EDIT:
I don't even want to imagine all the QQ-ing that's gonna go on when Blizzard fixes this...

Reading those posts, sounds like a timing bug in the software, something is bypassing the 'wait' cycle in the code. Blizz will fix this and call it an 'oops' and be done with it.

Not sure I'd rewrite all my macros to take advantage of this but I'm one of those stupidly honest folks. I suppose it's get the DPS while you can. ^_^

Now, would that macro work well PvP? Don't know, maybe I can try it.

I'd guess that the autoshot not being clipped is not a bug, but the instant aimed show followed by two instant multis is. Damn it's fun though.

Also you can just spam steady shot and get the same results.
