Hello guys,

I am recently getting into the Arena scene. I am not a total nub to it, but I have never actually done it seriously (Which is what I am trying to change). Before I would do Arena just for the 10 games a week, like most casual people.

I usually wouldn't even respec for it, just go with the usual 5/56 raiding build. But now that I am getting serious about it, I am trying to fiddle with some builds.

Here is what I think is best, for me at least. But I would like some experienced Arena Shaman input.

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=hxfzZxbZgcMt0xsxed

Restorative Totems/Mana Tide
From what I HAVE done, I find these talents totally useless. Any competent opponents take down Mana Tide before it has a chance to proc once. Even using LoS from the pillars, it procs at most 1 time before someone takes it out (Usually a Hunter). I find the points more useful in other talents. Let me know your thoughts on this please.

Improved Chain Heal
Well, I really don't have a reason behind this save for I use it a lot in Raids, and it seems natural in PvP for me to use it. The 2.5 second cast can be a problem, but I don't know. If I do decide to not put points here, the 2 points from this talent would go into Natures Guidance making it 3/3, and 1 point into Healing Way, just for the chance bonus.

OR I was also thinking about putting those 2 points into improved Ghost wolf. But how often do you guys use ghost wolf in Arena? I usually use it at the beginning of the fight, as it lets me survive a little longer while they are trying to find me. But going from 3 sec cast to 1 sec will help a lot. But is it worth it? It's pretty easy to get dazed out of, or CC. But i have found it very useful in a 1 v 1 situation, as most classes cannot keep up, and a 1 sec cast is hard to interrupt unless you have very fast fingers.

As for gear, I use all Gladiator PvP Healing gear, save for gloves. I use the elemental PvP gloves as I find the 5 yard increase to Shock spells > than a 2% increase to Lesser heal crit chance.

Everything else I chose is just my thoughts. Anyones input on this is greatly appreciated.

P.S. Can those of you who troll threads with "Quit Shaman roll XXXXX class for Arena" please just skip this thread. I don't care about your opinion in this matter, go troll another thread.

Thanks for your help in this matter.

As for restorative totems, the only 2 water totems that you'll probably use are poison cleansing and healing spring. Honestly, I'd put points in it for healing spring. Resto can make it VERY strong. It can be the difference between win and lose. I only use poison cleansing when I see a rogue. Fire resist totem might be ok vs a mage that HAPPENS to be fire spec, but the chances of that are slim... 95% are frost spec in arenas.

In 5v5 I'd think chain heal might be worth it, but generall in 2v2 and 3v3, only one person is getting hit at a time, making chain heal useless. A waste of time and mana. Moreover, your team probably won't be bunched up enough for it to hit all 3 of you anyways between fears etc.

I've yet to use Ghost Wolf in Arenas. Unless you plan on recasting GW while in combat, then there is no need for improved GW. You can cast it before the gates even open.

Despite what you said... I have a feeling you will become frustrated with Shaman in arenas unless you are doing 5v5. I used to bug my friends to do Arena... now I dread when they ask me.

Ahh something I'm good at, here's the spec I use:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=hZxbbZechtVestez

and here's why,

Guardian Totems, along with the 5-set piece bonus on gladiator gear to lower the grounding totem cooldown, this talent helps to further reduce that cooldown as well as increase the effectiveness of stoneskin totem (which seems useless, but against warrior/healer teams can be rather useful in keeping dmg against you minimal).

Imp Ghost wolf, There are times here and there where using this can help you get away to drink or just to get away. Only really helps if your dps is good at keeping their dps slowed with hamstring/crippling etc, which is ESSENTIAL to you surviving longer.

Most of the resto points should be obvious I purposely avoided PvE talents in leu of PvP ones.

I have 3/3 in Tidal focus and totemic focus because I'll leave it up to you to decide what you think is more important. 5% off 700 ish mana all the time or 25% off 200 ish mana all the time. Or a mix of both. I strongly believe that totemic focus is more important than Tidal focus over the course of a pvp fight. As laying totems includes grounding every 10-13 seconds, mana tide, poison cleanse, searing, windfury etc. You're always casting totems, you're not always healing.

That's my 2c for the spec.

The Vengeful Healing gloves have the 5 yard range, get those first if you can with points.

Thanks for the help so far.

The reason I am asking these things, is for my 5v5 Arena Team. I do not plan on doing 2v2, or 3v3. So anything you say will be based off of that.

And yeah, the reason i asked about ghost wolf was because i like to use it in combat, not just before. When I was enhancement spec leveling, I would use it constantly to gain group on my opponents. I was just wondering how it fairs in Arena.

Thanks for the help so far, but I would still like some ideas from more people.

k your talents are decent and here is what I rolled with I had a 1740 arena team doing 2's with a warrior with a lionheart executioner end of last season

BTW THE BEST PARTNER FOR A RESTO SHAMMY IS A WARRIOR

the fact that you can give them WF totem rapes **** realllly hard

this is my build that I use with awarrior mind you and I've never done 2's as resto with any other class

the build focuses on maximizing the possible healing you can do in the match

and as for mana tide it's to good not to get

you can just duck behind a pillar or something and drop it to ensure noone kills it before it goes full course

also you have to get used to Line of sighting people with stuff around you as much as possible

I go with a 0/3/58 build and I do ok in the arenas. Better in the 5v5 then in 2v2 or 3v3, usually because the other teams decide to go for juicier targets over me.

As for Chain Heal in arena, to me its the one spell the wins or looses the match for you. Literally a shaman can sit in between their partners and Chain Heal himself. I do this if I end up being the target of someones wrath. It really pissed them off too. Keep Poison Cleansing, Tremor, and Grounding down and you generally can avoid most types of CC.

I also recommend a good Earth Shock focus macro. If you get a chance to throw one out onto a caster is all the better for your team. Plus Rank 1 Earth Shock does the same thing as any other rank...so no need to waste mana.

The key for me in area is building a Shaman friendly team. For good or bad we lack CC, so build yourself around partners that can fill in our weaknesses. MS Warriors, Locks, Mages, Hunters, and Rogues are great partners. I find Pallys only add to the CC problem, so I avoid building an arena team with them (unless its 5v5). I find Priests to be redundant with a Shaman, unless they are a well geared Shadow spec. I have nothing against Druids but they really are only viable in arenas as resto, and whats the point of two resto classes?
