Leo and the lockFollow

#1 Jan 08 2008 at 5:38 PM Rating: Good
I was just reading the fight and it said a SL/SL lock. What spec is SL/SL?
#2REDACTED, Posted: Jan 08 2008 at 5:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Bah!!
#3REDACTED, Posted: Jan 08 2008 at 6:53 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol. look at all the lock talents and find the two that have a "s" in the first word and a "s" in the second one.

Unlike the two unhelpful people that decided to give smart remarks rather than just simply stating the answer...

SL/SL is a build that contains both Siphon Life and Soul Link, it's generally a PvP build due to its survivability.

Edit: Three unhelpful people.

It is also NOT a spec you would use for tanking Leo.

What would be a good spec for tanking Leo? He is my guilds next target and I will be one of the 2 locks tanking him during demon phase. My plan was to go with a 0/40/21 spec with the main idea being to spam Searing Pain while I'm tanking and still have some nice survivability with the Felhunter out.

What do you guys think?

actually you can tank him with all viable raidspeccs, it´s just most important that you are at 365 FR and that you have a large healthpool. Be soulstoned all the time cause even I, after we have done leo at least 15 times get blown away every now and then.
Soul link will just take the sting, from his really large crits, so if you haven´t got a large healthpool (13k+) you should considder a SL-specc.

Remember even though you need 365FR you
    must
have a decent +spellhit value.

Would that not be the perfect time to try a raid-demo-specc? that way you are perfectly fine set for both heavy damage and tanking encounters like Leotheras and Capernian.

My hit and fire resist with my fire resist gear (no buffs except the felhunter resist(70FR)) are ~170 and 314 respectively. Have the infernoweave set (200FR) - a nice fire resist cape(20FR) and a nice neckpiece(24FR). Also pushing 14k hp :) and can probably get that a little higher with some enchants. My +damage and crit though fall to ~750 and ~18%

Edit: Will check these numbers again and try be more specific when I have the time

I use 0/39/22 to tank leo. Drop Destructive reach (10% less threat ftl) and max Improved Searing Pain.

I keep ISB/Bane so I can kind of fake dpsing through the rest of SSC, heh.

There is no need to respecc fot leotheras, believe me, just spam searing pain it has a 200% aggromodifier

I'm going DT/Ruin tonight to tank Leo, seeing as I am the ONLY lock in the raid tonight. This should be entertaining for sure.

yes it does. but she will not be sent into the watery tomb, but his earthquake will affect her.

his earthquake will almost 1 shot her. and the random melees you get at the start from the murlocs when they come out could also insta gib her. if you're planning on going 0/40/21 and have her out, don't expect her to attack. just put her in a corner far away enough to not get hit by the earthquake. also don't use soullink as when you aoe you'll get hit a few times and she'll undoubtably die from just that.

Checked my stats and unfortunately my hit takes a massive knock if I wear the infernoweave set. It drops to a measly 8%. So I don't think I'll be tanking Leo atm :P

Although my buffed hp is sitting at 14k with it on, and I only lose ~2% crit and am down to 786 Shadow damage (unbuffed). Will see if I can get some +hit gear in other slots to get myself closer to 12/13% Maybe get the Elementel Shaman to spec to his funky 41 point Totem.

p.s. Loki, can you please post the build you used? Thanks :D

Have decided that if I do end up tanking him I will go for this spec 0/40/21. My plan is to wear my pvp gear so I am uncrittable (resilience FTW) and keep Felhunter out while spamming Searing Pain as fast as I can!! Will be sitting on ~35% crit for that ability.

Also, how hard is the Leotheras fight? Should we do him after Lurker? The mechanics seem to me to be the 2nd easiest of the SSC fights. And can the debuff be cleansed/dispelled or taken off by Felhunter?

lucky us resilience does not work in PvE.
otherwise stand on the brownish floor in a half-cirlce and have leotheras in the middle, as soon as he does his whirlwind-attack (meeles have to move out a few secs before this is of utmost importancy) and he takes someone into his target have that person run away the oter direction as fast as possible he will retarget a second or two after that and move towards another player, as soon as his whirlwind ends have a tank intercept him or intervene!.

In the beginning have the three adds killed one by one and have a tank ready abot before the last add dies. You cast a CoD immediatly as soon as he pops out of banish.

Be soulstoned all the time! you will eventually die!
Make sure no one is standing close to you during his demonphase!!!
They have to move, NOT you!
The debuff cannot be cleansed/dispelled/removed only by palabubble which you will not want to happen because of aggro-reset!
Have the healers heal your pet! Mark it!

1) Resil does work in PvE. Works the same as in PvP. The reason it's not a PvE stat is because per point, Defense is more cost effective, as are normal avoidance stats and past uncritable, not only does resil provide no bonus, but the additional bonuses to crit damage become useless.

2) I did it in 0/40/21, standard one, even with Destructive Reach I could hold aggro. (I was being misdirected to). Made it through the entire fight and only died when Leo was around 5%. We have awesome healers, I was around 14.5k HP buffed up, so the death was from a 16k damage 1 shot at the end.

3) BoP will not remove the Debuff.

4) Tidewalker became a moot point, since I logged onto my Pally alt and was tanking the Murlocs. Fun facts? I geared a toon from regular instances at 70 to a viable trash/adds tank in T5 content in a little under 2 weeks. Now I just alternate fights w/ her and my lock.

as loki said. resiliance works in pve. another reason he forgot about why tanks don't use it is because it doesn't decrease the chance you'er crushed, only critted. also oaken, i'm pretty certain the guy already realises you tank with searing pain :P

finally. anyone who is going to tank this. spell damage isn't a requirement. +hit, high hp and obviously the resistance are all you need. the base damage of searing pain mixed with the 200% threat modifier and the 300-400 spell damage you can get no issue from odd pieces of gear is more than enough to push out a 1.5k+ TPS as long as you have a high hit chance.

also loki. pally tanks rock ^^. last ssc i done we had 3 pally tanks and a warrior. we ended up aoeing down just about every trash group. was a good laugh ^^

Mob spells also can't crit under almost all (all?) situations, so stacking resilience as a caster tank isn't very useful.
Destructive Reach is useful because of the extra range. Going from whirlwind straight into demon phase, you want all the range you can get. Beyond the first 10 seconds or so there's really no way anyone should be able to pull aggro off you.

We have our warlock tank him (if you're facing Leo from the main large room) right next to the middle tents and the rock pillar near it - we found it a lot easier for all the healers to be in range there. During the 15% transition, he runs over to the left side of the ramp.

Be sure all your shammies are dropping searing totems for phase transitions. So incredibly helpful.
