i'm looking for the ultimate frost specFollow

hi i have a level 41 mage and i'm just starting to try and develop my endgame spec. i want to do easy questing, nice pve damage (i want to raid frost even though fire is better), and some easy farming with blizzard. in trying to find this spec i was thinking about doing this:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?2300050000000000000000000000000000000000000000535022313035010241551

i heard that 5/5 winter's chill is overkill, 4/5 with 80% should be enough to stack the debuff five times and maintain it. i wanted to get improved blizzard and some permafrost for farming/soloing. arctic reach is a great talent, but it isn't important to me for aoe'ing because i can blink 20 yards, and yet my blizzard reaches 30--i don't need the extra 5.

does anyone have any thoughts on how to make my build better, or see flawed logic on my part? help me out please, thanks in advance! ^_^

arctic reach is a very important talent so you can blink + move a bit farther and continue with blizzard and using frostbolt from more range.

Offtopic slightly - I recently respecced fire to try it out (the very yawn-worthy 10/48/3 build; I'm English and the WoW EU gets Ivy Viens tomorrow) as well as getting the Spellfire set. My 10/0/51 spec I loved and missed so much I respecced back to it. Its a lovely build, good mana retention, and has served me in grinding, pvp and raids.

Its very similar to yours as you can see (I used the Wowhead updated version with IV as this will be my frost spec for now on);

If you can sacrifice the points for Arctic Reach I'd recommend it - the 20% increase is very useful in raids i if your looking for a raiding as well as a grinding spec it is handy as the more range you have the better in boss encounters. Yes Winters chill I've always had at 4/5 and its more than enough. I don't solo grind a lot and usually grind with my boyfriends hunter - he's BM so we use the pet as a mini tank. This means I can escape aoe talents and permafrost and get frostbite etc (very nice in pvp if it procs off the cold armour). Generally tho its the same - mine's just a variant towards frostbolt spam for raiding.

Warning - you will be needed to spec out of frost if you intent to go SSC (learned this the hard way) so I'd get some experience with fire or arcane too. I generally regard frost as better as 1) I tried the rest and preferred it (unsure why, its just a nice talent tree 2) you wont need to respec just for pvp or grinding and frost is great for both.

Enjoy :p

well what i was saying about arctic reach is that it only increases my range by 5 yards. ok so my max range is 35 yards. before i blink away to cast blizzard, i'm right next to the monsters, assume at most 10 yards away (most likely not quite that far to ensure capturing them all) to catch them all together. blink has a max range of 20 yards. that means at most i am 30 yards away, perfect for blizzard. having arctic reach doesn't allow me to get off 3 blizzards i don't think, so it's not worth the 2 points to me. the spacing might be tight, but i've tried it and i didn't have a problem getting my 2 blizzards off really. i may consider putting points into it however.

ya the ssc thing stinks, but i wouldn't mind going fire for some progression raids. not that big of a deal. and it's just as easy to play imo. just keep the scorch debuff up. fireblast whenever you can.

Well once you hit 70 and start raiding, your spec should be based more on boss fights and not trash mobs. Bosses cannot be snared, so they can't be frozen. Which basically means there's really no reason to throw points into Imp. FN or Shatter, as they can't help in those boss battles. I'd take those points out, and put them elsewhere. Though I'm not sure where because I have *no* experience with level 70 frost builds. You'll have to ask some of the frosties lurking around here =P

while that's true about bosses, you are severely gimping your solo play and pvp play if you do not take those talents. i highly doubt that moving those talents elsewhere is going to even moderately increase your damage. better to have the solo play--i see what you are saying though. i was looking for an all around build. and i decided to take arctic reach for kicks...
