Holy Priest - Bonus Healing?Follow

#1 Jan 08 2008 at 11:18 AM Rating: Decent
I have a level 70 Holy Priest. Currently he has 1074 Bonus Healing. I heard or read somewhere that 1800 Bonus Healing is the most a Holy Priest would ever need. Is this true or would it pay to push it past 1800.

I have close to +1700 healing and can say that I have never wasted so much healing as I do now so I could see where someone would say 1800 is a max.

My renews tick for so much that the guy is usually healed way before it finishes ticking, and you either cast greater heal when the guy is near death or safely cast sooner, causing it to generally heal them plus 500 or so. Im almost embarrassed to look at the overhealing stats in damage meter after a run. To a average unaware dps'er or whatever it would appear I was a newb healer.

I could of course use lower ranked heals but I have enough buttons as it is so I don't bother.

I myself have stopped focusing on +healing at this point and going more towards mana regen which if Im not mistaken is around 300 while casting.

I have a base of 1960 +healing and 220 mp5 while casting unbuffed. Really not too much i can do to drop it any lower except replace some healing gems with 4 mana per 5 gems, but we are saving those for tanks right now.

At this point I feel I have enough healing, but I think each level of healing should not be attained until you have enough mana per 5 while casting.

At your level of healing I wouldn't worry about getting mana regen gear (other than gems) until you get to 1500 healing. I Recommend never using +18 healing gems, since the +9 healing +2 mp5 gems are so much better. Once you get to 1500 healing you can start to work on your mp5 too.

Then you will make little upgrades on both healing and mp5 as you go.

I don't really see there being a "cap" to healing. My guild leader and main healer runs around with about +2250 fully buffed iirc (and around 240mp5 unbuffed). He sticks with Renew, PoM, and full-rank Gheal (I don't think he downranks Gheal at all), and regularly tops healing charts. He also, of course, tops it when there's lots of AoE damage, as he goes into CoH mode (which, btw, is about the most overpowered heal there is).

i have +1988 and 223 mp5. I would say you should strive to push for as much as you can out of your gear as possible. Downranking spells is your best friend and will allow you to stay in the fight longer.

Even though you may have a sp for mana battery whats to say he doesn't die early oin the fight.

I have learned through experience that the more +healing that you have the easier it is on your mana pool. Strive to be the best at healing with being the most mana efficent healer in your raid.

Assuming you are up over +1800 healing, how much would you recommend downranking your flash and greater heal for normal use?

I actually healed the kael fight last night on our attempts using greater heal rank 2 and flash heal rank 5. Though everyone will downrank different depending on how much +healing they have, i have found that those ranks are working perfect for me and i am constantly 1st and 2nd on the helaing meters during our raids.

Downranking is a great tool, because you will heal more mana-efficient and overheals will be avoided. It doesn't matter if the tank's health (or any other player for that matter) is not 100%. As long as he lives. When you start a MB, just renew everybody (with damage) with what mana you have left and start drinking. That's how it works best for me.

I was reading on the EJ forums and they were sort of implying that GH2 is the magic sweet spot for downranking. However, they were also talking about relatively well geared priests so if you are sub-KZ geared maybe you should downrank to GH1. As for FH I'm not sure. I haven't been able to find any reliable sources doing analysis on FH downranking yet so that is something you'll have to figure out on your own.

Agoge claims FH5 works well for him and I can see that being the floor for effective FH downranking. Anything below FH5 I think would heal too little to be worth it, you might as well just keep stopcasting you GH1/2 and wait for the tank to take some extra damage.

I also use GH2 for my down rank. It works really well, depending on the fight and situation I will spam GH2, or cancel cast GH7. While keeping PoM and renew on tank(s). That's when i'm not using CoH on the raid.

I would never downrank flash heal. If i need the healing that bad that i have to cast FH, then i want it as big as possible.

From my experience, GH3 or 4 works for me. Maybe i'll get to 2-3 when i get more +healing ("only" 1700 now)

If you check out the priest healing calculator: http://smulan.se/priest/, bung in your stats and talents then look at the Greater heal graph at the bottom, you'll see once you're past 800+heal there's very little in the mana-efficiency of Gheal ranks 4-7, while ranks 3,2,1 are much more mana efficient with rank 1 being the most efficient. Rank 1 Gheal heals for about half a rank 7, if you want a slightly bigger heal then ranks 2-3 would be a nice trade-off.
