Does anyone have any more details on this? I’ve read everything from it being a big boost to it being only a tweak. I’ve yet to find anything official.

Link is right here

  • The XP that pets need to level has been reduced — from 25% to 16.75% of the XP that a player of the same level requires. In other words, pets require 33% less XP to level on the PTR.
  • Pets still do not earn XP when the hunter completes a quest.
  • Pets still do not earn XP from kills that are grey to the hunter

  • The XP-per-kill that a pet receives shows no changes between the PTR and the live realms.

  • But this blog was written on Nov 23rd, so I don't know if that PTR is for this patch or if it was for the 2.3 big patch and they took it out or what, but I thought it would be relevant.

I just wish they would level off mobs their own level. I'd go run a guildy through a low level instance and kill two birds with one stone. My ghost wolf is still never going to hit 70 Smiley: glare

Will a low level pet gain more XP from say a heroic/hi-level mob or does it always gain that ratio/percentage to your total xp?

It just sounds like pet's gain the same amount of XP that they have always gotten from mobs- they just need less of it.

Makes the most sense, too. Blizzard is lazy. It's easier to reduce the amount of XP needed, than it is to rework the amount of experience that the pets gain.

I would also love to hear anyone say something about darigraz's question about pet lvling. At 70, I recently trained a 63 ravager simply for the gore ability, plus it looks cool. Now I know that I need to lvl him to 70 fairly quickly since he's kind of useless in the sense that any mobs around 66 or higher he will either do just a little damage to or no damage at all to.

So since I know that running back to hellfire won't do me any good with regards to lvling my poor little ravager, should I just start griding in places like terrokar forrest and maybe some parts of zangamarsh simply becuase those are the areas where my pet can hold aggro and do some decent damage as well as lvl?

Even in those lower level areas your pet won't be able to hold aggro, since you are doing so much more damage than him you will still pull the mob off of him. I have found it is best to take a lower level pet into an instance, and make sure you have a really good tank. Make sure you turn off growl and that way he is just extra dps in the background and you don't have to worry about him as much. This is what I have been doing with my two pets - rak'shiri and uhk'loc. Rak went from 65 to 67 in a matter of days.

Darigraz, your pet won't gain extra experience from heroics (as far as I know), but if you were leveling it fighting green mobs, yellow mobs will give it more exp.
