Question about Shadow StepFollow

This is probably a stupid question, but I believe the tool tip says "the damage of your next ability is increased by 20%." As a non-dagger rogue, if you Cheap Shot out of ShS, does that waste your 20% damage - or does the 20% apply to your next Hemo, for instance? And I am assuming it is the threat reduction that lasts for 10 seconds?

Cheap Shot doesn't do any damage.

How about something like garrote, which is a DoT effect?

I realize Cheap Shot does not do any damage, but I think it may initiate auto attack. If redbarron is correct, can I assume that the 20% damage buff is only consumed by special attacks that cause damage? Also, would this apply to finishing moves, for instance: Premed-->ShS-->CS-->Evis?

This is all a moot point anyways as you should be Combat spec.

I never noticed much of an effect with Garrote so I can't be too sure. Logic says it should (especially considering it uses up the buff) but I never paid close enough attention to notice if it does and by how much.

It does, your Garrote should tick for more each time with the ShS buff.

Now do you mean that in a way similar to the way a Warlock's Curse of Agony works? Or am I misreading your statement?

I thought that Garrote and Rupture aren't affected by Shadowstep's damage buff. I'd test it except I'm about...
