I just hit 70 this weekend with my Pally!!! YeeHaw! I wanted to thank everyone for helping me hammer out my spec over the past couple of months. And special thanks go out to CapJack, Celcio, Gwynhara, and everyone else who helped me see that my bastardized Holy/prot hybrid spec just wasn't going to work.

I switched over to a 45/0/16 spec which I'm absolutely loving and I'm sure will carry me through until I start 2v2 Arena. I never seem to run out of mana in my healing gear...and I hit like a truck in my dps gear.

By the way, I just picked up Avenging Wrath...which is my favorite new toy. The glowing wings look F'n awesome.

Thanks again all.

Avenging Wrath is my favorite toy too. I can almost taste the anguish when I Purge it from opposing Paladins before they even get a single swing or Judgement off. It sustains me.

All kidding aside, congratulations on 70.

I would be absolutely heartbroken if someone took away my kickass wings the second I put them on!!! Damn you purgers!

Seriously though, I've only used it in PvP once (against a BE pally). I didn't even think of the fact that once I hit that button those wings act like a big billboard screaming" He used one of his few offensive abilities....get him".

LoL no Dilbrt. I went with a 45/0/16 simply because I am always teamed up with my brother's warrior. During questing I use a 2-H weapon and fight next to him, falling back to heal when necessary. I let him hold aggro and I don't get hit that much. So at the moment I don't need the shield skills included in the typical Holy/Prot build. I only use a shield for a stat boost with my full healing set.

Once we get done with normal questing we are going to hit the level 70 instances and then heriocs. I have more than enough points in Holy to heal these two. After a few months doing this we will probably switch to BG's and Arena play. I know I'll need my shield there...and will respec away from Holy/Ret and into Holy/Prot.

I strongly considered the more traditional Holy/Prot build. But it just doesn't fit with my current playstyle or needs. Here is what I spec'd. Feel free to pick it apart...but in all honesty I'm happy with this spec and probably won't change until I get into PvP.

Yeah...I ran into that horrible little fact last night a couple times when I instictively hit my bubble and got nada. I'm certainly going to use AW very sparingly in PvP. But I love it for PvE.

If you want to start running heroics you should definately switch up your talents. You aren't going to be swinging a 2-hander next to him. You'll be sitting in the back praying that the next heal will go off so that your tank doesn't die. If you do end up getting hit, the points in protection will lessen the blow and the points in ret are just useless in heroics.

The thing about it, when it comes to threat it isn't a simple "oh you pass the tank's threat and you get aggro." It varies depending on your range from the mob. If you're in melee range, the instant you pass the tank you pull aggro. If you're at range, you can actually go 114% of the tank's threat without pulling aggro. As a healer, getting threat is the worst thing you can do so you want to stay at range. If you're at range, ret talents are pointless.

Huh. I didn't know that.

How do you people figure that stuff out?

Game experience, research, and talking to more experienced players.

Of course I keep my distance when group healing...and I put away the 2-hander. When I was talking about standing next to warrior I was refering to questing when it really isn't necessray to have a full-time healer. I've decided to finish all of the Outland zone quests and normal instances before attempting Heriocs. So I still have some time before I really need those protection points.

I hadn't considered it all the way through but it makes sense to switch my points from Ret to Prot before starting Heriocs. At that point I'll be done with all quests and normal instances and will be focused only on healing. I'll probably still wait until I finish all normal instances though. Since about 1/3 of the time there seems to be another healing class (holy priest, resto shaman, etc) and I'm assigned as dps/boss fight healer.

It's 130, not 114.

oof, i never thought of spellstealing avenging wrath. that would so completely suck for any opposing arena team!

and about the agro thing, even at 1xx whatever threat, if you're at range that's still 1-2 seconds before the mob gets to you as opposed to "oops, i just did a quad crit with white/soc/2x firey proc/joc with avenging wrath on" in melee situations, so the warrior/palaidn can just say 'taunt' (or mocking blow if taunt didn't work)and the mob is usually back on course to the 10 inch thick adamantine wall of tank..and if not then yer usually dead, barring priest/paladin shieldings.

and that's (most likely) nothing they learned from experience. they just most likely used ktm threat meter and never learned how to control agro themselves. :) these new generation of players...bah lol

You're in for a world of flaming if you just called Dilbrt and RPZip inexperienced.

Just sayin, you should probably start rolling around on the ground now.

i wasn't referring to them, since i don't know who they are.

i was referring to the other high % of the population who never learned the basics, instincts, and just follow the 'just use this and you don't even have to look at the screen to play' people.

and i lie down and roll for nobody thank you. :)
