Hello all,

I'm a lvl 34 Draenaei shaman, and I recently got Windfury weapon and the totem. I have a friend who is a 70 shaman and was listing the virtues of WF to me. But now that I've used it some, I'm not exactly impressed.

At first I was was using a 2h Axe, and it seemed as though Flurry was proc'ing a lot more than WF, even though WF has a 20% proc rate and my crit rating is 12ish. I switched to mace/shield, and WF definitely proc'd more, though not in anything that seems to justify its apparent status as best of the combat totems.

So on to my questions, because I'm starting to suspect I'm missing something.

First off, does the Windfury weapon buff stack with the totem? And if not, which one takes precedence? Also, if the Windfuries don't stack, will the totem stack with say, Rockbiter?

Just some questions I have as I try to figure out my shamanic existence. Thanks for listening. :D

No weapon buffs stack with the totem, and things like sharpening stones and rogue poisons don't stack either. The buff already on a person's weapon has precedence over the totem. (And it's a good thing, too; your Windfury Weapon is two bonus attacks, Windfury Totem only one.)

The reason Flurry seems to be proccing more than Windfury is that Windfury attacks can proc Flurries, but Windfury has a hidden timer built-in to limit how often Windfury procs. So it's not actually 20%, overall.

As for which weapon buff is best, Windfury _is_ the best overall DPS if you're enhancement. Flametongue and Frostbrand have spell damage coefficients, so they're preferable if you're elemental. For soloing, especially with a two-hander, I prefer Rockbiter's consistency over the feast-or-famine nature of Windfury.

I'm pretty sure it affects both, which is why you want two slow weapons.

My question is what should you use as a resto shaman? I've been using flame tongue.

The reason to use slow weapons is to maximize your Stormstrikes. Stormstrike's damage is based on your weapon damage; slow weapons do more damage per hit; therefore slower weapons get more out of Stormstrike.

As a resto shaman, you want to be using Flametongue. Frostbrand has always been too random for my tastes. Some people swear by it and its slowing effect; personally, if I wanted something slowed I would have cast Frost Shock. Flametongue is more consistent and more damaging and gets a coefficient based on your spell damage. For resto and elemental, it's most certainly the way to go.

The most important reason for 2 slow weapons is that they dramatically increase WF DPS.

And yes, Flametongue is the best Resto imbue. You shouldn't be meleeing too often, but when you are forced to, FT yields the greatest damage due to the spell power bonus and how fast you swing that thing.

I've been doing mostly melee as resto. Earthshield, flametongue, and earth shock. Takes a lot longer to kill, but I can finish fights with full health and mana. Sometimes I open with two lightning bolts because that's about equal to 10 melee hits.
