My first KaraFollow

All went really. We manage to get one experienced raider to join us. She has been in a lot of raids, she was a big help.

We one shotted Attueman, dying only to one pull towards the end.

Got to Moroes easily, that was a fun fight. The first time was a little shaky. The shadow priest drained one of the healers dry really fast. After that the dps started dying off. Second run ended really short, MT didn't get the heals in time. (My main focus at the time was a Turn undead}. We got him on the third easily.

Went to Maiden. We had a pally tank, I was a little scared at first. We had a rough time getting silly things in order. DPS was standing out of LOS, and cleanses weren't happening fast enough. We fixed that and cleared without deaths on the third try.

Big bad wolf was easy to one shot. We were a little slow on the red riding hoods, but it worked out ok.

Here's where the problems started, Curator. We tried twice but gave up. We couldnt get him below 75% We had a Pally MT, warrior OT controlling the balls, 3 healers and the rest were dps. I tried to absorb the hateful strikes after the first try. It worked really well, but I didnt know it reset the targets after the first Evo.

Anyway I need some ideas, we are hoping to try again soon. What tips can you offer?

Curator is the first gear check in kara. If you don't have the dps, you're going to lose. Suggestions...

1.) Have all DPS completely ignore Curator and focus 100% on the orbs until the evocation
2.) Make sure everyone has deadly boss mods (or BigWigs)
3.) If you have a warlock, have them curse of doom (amp if they have it) with 50 seconds on the timer
4.) If you have shaman, bloodlust on the last orb before the evocate
5.) Use full consumables. This means flasks/elixirs, food, oils, and potions

Deadly boss mods is a godsend. Not only for the timers on the bosses' special moves but also for checking distances between players.

Try to have two tanks on the Curator and each tank to have a dedicated healer.

The orbs, when generated, will go to a random non-tank person.

Remember that the orbs have an attack radius of 10 yards. So your DPS group should be at least 12 yards from the tank healers. They MUST pull the orbs away from the healers and DPS them down as fast as possible.

After the 10th (I think it's 10) orb, the evocation period comes and all the DPS must focus as much power onto the Curator. If the healers are managing their mana, they can add to DPS. As paladin MT healer, I add a consecrate and holy shock at this point.

At the end of the evocation period, be ready to resume with the orbs.

Amen to consumables. Food is great, especially with the daily cooking quests. Add flasks and elixirs to the pre-fight preparation. Also don't be afraid to quaff potions mid-fight.

In the end, it's a long fight but relatively straight-forward.

I can't tell you have many times I've heard this scenario; We did fine, everything was pretty fun/easy, but then we got to Curator.

The guy is the first major challenge of Kara. And is always tough for new groups. I'll tell you why imo this fight is always "hard". Against all bosses before Curator it's "Kill the boss." Attumen and Moroes have adds but those are gone quick. For DPSers it's usually hard for them to switch from "Kill the boss" to "Forget about the boss" mode.

I've been in 3 different Kara groups before, and the first time we beat him in each group is always when DPS seems to understand that you don't touch him when there's a spark up. Once everyone understands this, the fight is relatively easy, provided your group's gear isn't completely horrible.

When all else fails, just ask Curator if you can have his phat l00tz plz!

All of the above is good (except the bit about 2 tanks, we've only ever used one. Use a stam heavy warlock as the soaker), but I would also recommend having a Shadow Priest locked on Curator the whole fight. You clearly didn't get this far, but as a new group coming to Kara, your healers are going to be hurting for mana near the end. A Shadow Priest cranking out DPS during the evocation period can nearly refill anyone's mana bar in their group (including theirs).

I hate Curator. Lots. Not because he's that hard (at least once you've gotten down a good strat), but because before we got decked out in Kara gear, they wouldn't even try this fight without a Shadow Priest in the raid. The job went to me about 95% of the time, so I've killed this guy more than any other mob in the game...seriously (/wrist).

EDIT: Crap, thought I was posting on Priest forums...(Doh). Most of what I said still applies though).

and don't forget as soon as you get the violet badge Arcane resist trinket use it on this fight and and shade of aran fights.

You don't need arcane resist, I have never used it, even when my guild was progressing in kara. You may have originally needed it, but once they nerfed it, its a waste of dps/healing/tanking to use up gear slots with AR.

LOL. To get that trinket you need to defeat Prince, the final boss in Kara. Great advice for someone who's just starting.

Not.

At this point of the game, with the nerfs Curator has seen months ago, even progressing guilds no longer have to worry about Arcane resist. In fact putting it on will hinder you rather than help.

Tanking end of things Curator is a tank and spank. Healing end of things it is there to get you to learn raiding healing and assigning heals and making sure you have 3 healers that compliment each other and not 3 pallies.

At its heart Curator is a DPS test, much like Gruul.

It seperates the clickers from the real players. The 0.5-1.0 second difference spread across 5 dps on acquiring and doing damage to sparks as they pops makes a big difference. The sparks have low health, but the longer they are up the more damage they do and the more strain they put on healing so it is all about DPS downing them in a timely fashion. They also cut into dps time on Curator for evocates if handled poorly. If you have rogues, hunters or any other dps that are just above the tank on dps at this point they are going to make this fight go from being a cake walk to flat out impossible, no matter how decent your heals/tanks/dps are. 8 people can't carry 2 useless one. Especially if you are progressing.

2 pallys and a priest. One problem we have is that we only have 10 70s. I honestly think we will get it next week. I have talked to each member about the plan and it should go well.

I am still worried, our tank is a clicker.
