Hide in Shadows and PetsFollow

So I'm playing in PvP and I have my "track huminoid" skill active. I detect a member of the opposition coming so I fade into the scenery using "Shadow Meld". But what about my pet? Can he still be seen? If so..what to do?

I've thought about commanding my pet to stay and then move off to the side about 20 yds and wait...using him as bait if you pardon the expression. But I cringe at the idea because I've actually grown quite fond of the little guy and this seems a good way to **** him off.

Any other thoughts?

Raise your hand if you get his Babylon 5 reference?

Congradulations! I'm impressed. Seeing that Zathros was a minor character and only appeared in 3 or 4 episodes during a 5 yr long series, that almost nobody watched 10 yrs ago, I thought the reference was obscure enough that no one would get it.

lol, I have the whole series on DVD. Anyway, some pets can prowl or go invisable if you check petopia it will tell you which ones. If you really like stealthing the a rogue might be more your style.

As far as I know, cats are the only pets capable of any form of stealth (referred to as the "prowl" skill)

There are spiders/wolves/and a handful of other animals that can stealth in the wild but will not retain the ability to do so once tamed.

I'd also like to note that I don't think your pet's prowl is nearly as good as a rogue's even at the same level (not including things like detection abilities or improved stealth like Master of Deception) But it does help in getting the jump on your opponent, especially as a night elf with shadowmeld.

I'm also not sure if your pet is too bothered by getting killed in PvP, much like your gear's durability when killed in PvP. I'll have to give it a shot some time to be sure, it's been a while since I BG'd on my hunter.

PVP kills of your pet and rez at the grave yard the pet does not care about, but when rez'ed by you, one does have to feed and make the pet happy again.

standing off to one side and having the pet attack whoever is comming does work :)

As a Tauren Hunter I did the reversed were my pet was had prowl on and I was the bait. :)

I am interested in prowl too... though just for fun.

I made little Belf hunter on another server for a try and I got ghost saber and prowl. He is barely visible to me when in prowl but what about others around me? Can they see my pet at all?
I have prowl hotkeyed and am having enormous fun clicking it now and then around people, the sound makes them literally jump every time.

So its just fun for me but I would like to know is he visible to others as he is to me?

Sorry, not a B-5 fan... :( Never got into the series. Reminded me too much of DS-9 or vice versa(blech).

I shadowmeld and prowl Morris all the time. It's very useful in instances where you are the only survivor and waiting for folks to come back. Also useful for ambush and 'hiding' in plain sight in BG's.

While as an NE, you can't move while in shadowmeld, your pet CAN under prowl. You can use eyes of the beast and prowl around (at least you used to be able to, haven't done it in a while) while you are 'safely' under shadowmeld. Very useful.

I regularly do the same thing on my nelf hunter on a PvP server, Zathros. If I don't have my Ghost Saber (cat) with me, I'll tell my current pet to stay and move off a ways before shadowmelding.

I successfully used that to gank and avoid the return favor over the weekend. I was making the "mallet of Zul'farrak" in the Hinterlands. I'd picked up the 'sacred mallet' and was working my way up Jintha'alor. I got lucky and followed behind some skull-level horde that were apparently farming the place. I'd hide behind some of the huts so they didn't notice my presence or perhaps they were being kind. Once I made it up to the altar and Hexx, there was one tauren freeing the troll on the altar. He was close to my level so we fought and I won. However 'track humanoids' said there was another horde nearby and coming my way. So while my owl attacked the mob blocking my path I walked to distant corner and shadowmelded. The arriving horde toon helped my pet kill the mob. I think he was expecting my pet to return to me and show him where I was hidden. I had the bird 'stay' in his fight location. So after wandering around a bit looking for me the horde killed my pet and left.

Would anybody who knows macros tell me how to create one that would cycle through a few tracking types in sequence? I want to switch between 'track humanoids', 'track herbs', 'track undead' and 'track hidden' with one button if possible.

If you are specifically looking for the pet with the best stealth ability, I would guess that this would be your best bet:

The ghost kitty is transparent to start with and from what I’ve read it becomes harder to see than normal cats when using prowl.

Do apologize for the quality in which the link is posted I'm not familiar with how this system works right now.

Hell, pet's are happy campers when they get rez'ed at the PvP graveyards. If your pet is sad, just die and rez, and it'll be green happy again.

Actually when PVPing in AB I like to leave my wind serpent inside the building and shadowmeld right out far enough away from the flag that I can shoot anyone who tries to take it. Then as soon as I do mark and pet comes flying in to destroy them.

It works.

Sounds like you were in AB doing this. In that case, what I do is this. I put my pet next to flag on "Aggressive" and go stealth in Aimed Shot distance of the flag. I put pet on aggressive because it seems to work really well on Rogues that get anywhere close to my pet. He usually can find them before I can.
