Well, I had never really thought about this, but...I have come to a point where I have more than a few pieces for some of my slots. I had always focused on just staying uncritable, uncrushable, and getting my health up as high as I could...but now I can do those, and change other stats around.

I'll list the stats of some of my sets, that I have put together, each focusing on different stats.

Set 1 : (possibly my set for main tanking) Uncritable, Uncrushable, 23% dodge, 16% parry, 19% block, 14.5k health, 315 block value, 267 spell damage, 4443 mana.

Set 2 : (possibly for offtanking/tanking trash) Uncritable, Uncrushable, 21% dodge, 16.5% parry, 20% block, 13.5k health, 272 block value, 298 spell damage, 5163 mana.

Set 3 : (possibly for aoe tanking) (dragonhawk boss :P ?) Uncritable, 0.14 from Uncrushable (nothing kings cant fix, assuming we have another pally to give it to me in the raid, me keeping sanctuary up), 16% dodge, 16% parry, 23.5% block, 14.5k health, 370 block value, 270 spell damage, 4728 mana.

Do those sets sound right?..or am I aiming for the wrong stuff in the wrong situations..or should I just need one set for all situations?

I guess what I'm really looking for, is what stats to shoot for in different situations. Should I just get high block rating and value and not worry about dodge?..because dodge = no aggro, and block = more damage/threat/aggro. (Block value is constant damage reduced, and dodge is only sometimes damage avoided)..Or should I not worry about being uncrushable, when aoe tanking, or tanking trash?..(Of course would keep a set to main tank in, where I am uncrushable)

P.S. My spell damage is kind of low..getting the ZA eagle boss's mace soon, I hope..7 runs and haven't seen it yet....I dare a SP to roll against me :P

EDIT: Bolded the main stats for each set and underlined the low stats.

Personally the only time I swap out gear is when I am tanking something I outgear (normal 70 instances for example), the rest of the time I have 1 set. That said, there's no reason you can't have various pieces to swap out depending on the situation, it just takes up more bag space than I personally am willing to set aside for gear given that I need to keep a full healing kit on me as well and all the other crap in my bags ;)

I think you have the stats pretty much right for the different situations: MT definently want uncrit/crush with as much health as possible, stack more spell damage for AOE tanking to keep up with your AOE DPSers. I really wouldn't worry about block value much. Of course get it where you can, but it shouldn't be a top priority regardless of the situation. Sure it's constant DR, but it's also very minimal.

I agree with Maulgak. I have 2 sets myself. One for raids/heroics, one for solo/5mans. Both are uncrushable for the level of mobs being fought. My 5man/solo set has more mana/mana regen. The reason I have this set is because my gear out-surpasses normal 5mans(for example, taking all adds and bosses at the same time in BM in my solo/5man set with no problem). So I usually run out of mana pretty fast, the extra Int/mp5 helps me with this.

I agree on the block value as well, it's not that important. And if I recall(correct me if I'm wrong), but the dragonhawk boss in ZA's adds don't hit for more than 250 on plate. Maybe I'm wrong on this but I don't remember ever getting any dmg from these little suckers as long as they were in front of me.

Either way it sounds like you have the right idea. Happy hunting!

(Editted to change ZG to ZA. I've been running ZF on alts lately so I have abbreviation all messed up) =P
