Just like the title says, buy having something other than LW is there that much I am out on?

Gonna be keeping her feral for all time, mainly PvPing and running her threw Kara when it in an alt-night in guild, well.. once my husband has his plate chest and shield from Nightbane (stingy bastage!!) and he takes his resto Shammy and I will tank or off-tank/dps for it.

I am currently Alchy/Herb as I was going broke from raid pots on my main (mage). I could always switch professions with my husband's Shammy though and make HIM do the pots, but then all the gathering professions will be on his account, which.. untill we make ANOTHER 5k gold, I am still w/o an epic flyer since I can't see spending the $$ on my tailor/chanter mage =)

I have looked but want to ask the experts if there is anything I am really missing out on for it.

Thanks much! <3

Not missing much at all.

All the armor and armor kits you could make for yourself are BoE so you can buy them in the AH, except for the level 375 epic Primalstrike set which is nice but not worth leveling a craft to 375, especially since you'll be PvPing and able to get better stuff that way.

You'll also miss out on the ability to use drums (Drums of Panic, Drums of War, Drums of Restoration, etc.) because they require LW350 to use. Since 2.3 you can use them in forms so they're pretty cool, but not worth leveling up LW just for that, though.

There's also a +20 strength buff that you get if you equip all three pieces of the Heavy Clefthoof set only if you have LW350.

If you run instances past kara - some of the LW recipes are pretty damn sweet though.

I like LW and if possible I'd recommend keeping it for the long term. Right now the only benefit is drums (I'm addicted to drums of panic), leg armor kits (good way to make money if your have some primal nethers), and recipes from SSC/TK (A boot recipe drops that is BoE, but the boots are BoP so you can only get them if your a LW, nice boots too)

However, for the long term LW will be nice to have when WotLK comes out. Blizzard has said before they want to expand on the "best in slot" BoP gear for crafters. So there is a very good chance that there will be some nice feral gear you'll only be able to get as a LW with mats that are accessible to everyone. Think shadoweave for S priests/ Aff locks, don't need a group to get any of the mats and it's as good as T4.

Of course you can always PL LW up again just before WotLK comes out, but after doing that once already (my first profession is enchanting) I'm certainly not eager to spend that much money to level a craft again without gathering.

For the record, 'buy' is another word for purchase. 'By' is the word you're looking for here.

Small mistake, but annoying nonetheless. Forgive my grammar naziness, I'm just cranky today.

The incorrect "looseing" should be pointed out, too, since it's not a word at all, as long as we're being wordnerds. : ) The correct spelling of that word would be "losing," but "missing" would be better word choice since OP is talking about whether or not to take LW not having it now, not getting rid of it.

Great post, SirJac...I too am addicted to my Drums of Panic, and am glad to hear high-end patterns are supposed to get better with WotLK.

Bah I hate to hear this. I've been doing a good job of keeping LW leveled as my Druid grows up, but it sounds like it's not really worth it for feral. What about for resto or boomkin?

It's not that bad, especially now that drums are usable in forms. Remember the question was not "is LW good" but "what am I missing out on if I don't take LW"

Especially now that drums are so much easier and less costly to make, and can be used in forms, I still recommend that druids take skinning and leatherworking unless they have a hankerin to be something else.

Drums of War (+60 AP for whole party for 30 seconds) and Drums of Panic (brief AoE fear) are both very nice little "leatherworker only" buffs that benefit DPS and tanking, respectively. It's nice to be able to make, equip and give away armor kits whenever you want, and I wore plenty of my own armor leveling up.

As you start Kara the extra +74 Def rating on the Heavy Clefthoof set will be a huge help. After those 3 pieces you will only need another few to become "crit-immune".

Also some of the previously mentioned BOE plans from SSC/Eye/BT, etc. can create some amazing items. I picked up the one for the Boots of Natural Grace. The only serious upgrades to those boots are in BT. My guild has been clearing Kara and on 1/1/08 did a guild run to kill gruul -- needless to say I will get alot of use from those boots before they are replaced.

Absolutely, but all three pieces are BoE and very easy to come by, so you wouldn't "miss out" on the set by not being a leatherworker. Same for the Stylin' Purple Hat, and even the Clefthide Leg Armor you'll want on your tanking pants and Cobrahide Leg Armor you'll want on your DPS pants.

The only reason (pre-25man) to take LW is for the Primalstrike set & the Drums. Everything else can be purchased from another LW.

The Primalstrike is easily replaced by the PvP Belt & Bracers & the Kara rep crafted Chestpiece you can get made by another LW. All 3 pieces can also be replaced by Badge of Justice rewards as well.

That leaves the drums. They are really nice. However, there are also other nice benefits from other crafts as well. Enchanting has the ring enchants, jewelcrafting has their BOP gems, Alchemy has the crazy Mad Alchemists Potion (very nice).

I, however, as soon as I replace my Primalstrike Vest with the Badge reward one, will be dropping my LW for herbing. Having epic flight form and being able to herb while still in form (not that it really matters when it is an instant cast) means I can gather herbs really quickly & easily. This will save me a lot of time farming as well as make me some money. Compared to using my drums when I remember (not often enough).
